2005 SL65
New SL65 owner. Slowish quarter mile/trap speed.

Hi everyone! I'm new here, first Benz ever. Bought this 2005 SL65 with only 34k miles from a luxury used car dealership two months ago and I really like it It is a beautiful car...

I had a couple of things done to it by the stealership, including a new Bosch 010 ic pump, new spark plugs, ABC flush, 2 leaking ABC hose replaced and some maintenance. Also did a muffler delete.

I have the Renntech badges on this car, so I assumed it was tuned... Car feels good, altough it was my first time ever driving a 600 hp car so I wasn't really sure what to expect.

Went to the quarter mile today on the ICAR circuit in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and I did 4 run. Really had a hard time getting traction in first gear, best ET/trap of the night was 12.8 at 114.3 mph with a 60' of 2.2s . This isn't really a fast track, all four run were done against a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster, his best time was 12.35 and he was trapping 117-119 all night long.

I'm not really concerned about my ET, since i'm running on street tires 20" Pirelli P-Zero Nero 305 and traction was a MAJOR problem in first gear, but I know these cars are supposed to trap around 117-120 stock. Renntech-ed one should be higher between 120-127 mph...

Is there any way to know if I am tuned ? Otherwise i'm already looking at Eurocharged...

My advice - work on getting a decent 60ft time before thinking about looking for more power................you have a lot to gain with a 2.2

Call Renntech with the Vin, they can tell you if the ecu has been flashed.

Beg, borrow or steal some drag radials and go try again. Yes, stock should run 11.8 - 12.2 and 115-120. Flashed should run 10-70 - 11.00 and 125-130. All of this has a lot of variables, but you get the idea. My car, when stock, went 11.81 at 117 with stock street tires and spinning all the way through 1st and 2nd. With Eurocharged tune, I went 10.99 at 127.6, spinning. I'm sure there's a 10.70 in the car with better drag radials.

I agree your MPH is low, but again there are a lot of reasons that can happen. If the car is heat soaked and the computer is pulling timing, if the track DA was really high, etc. More info can help.

http://airdensityonline.com/tracks/ can tell you the DA of your track, but you will need to add a gauge to find out what your car is really doing. Shardul can hook you up with an Aeroforce gauge so you can see what is going on in real time.

When I got my car it didn't feel as fast as I thought it should, and once I installed my Aeroforce gauge I found the car was making very little boost. Knowing that, I was able to know where to start tracking down the low power issue. I mounted mine in the console ash tray compartment next t my line lock arming switch.

My Eurocharged tuned and s/c pulley'd SL55 was ran 12.54 @113 with a 2.0 60 foot.

I couldnt get the traction control to stay off. It was quite annoying.

Also, you should be running in Dyno Mode and put the trans in manual. It will still shift itself up at the right time.

Thanks everyone! I emailed RENNtech with my VIN# and they have no record of my vin number on file... So i'm bone stock. God I hate people who put fake badges...

I know that my 60' sucked... a lot haha, but I was more concerned about my trap speed since even with a ****ty start, I should trap much higher than that if I was tuned. I am looking for some used 17-18" MB wheels and some drag radials...

It was kinda hot/humid too... About 77f. Even with the traction control off, I could see it was still intervening in first and second gear, so that might've hurt my trap speed a little... I heard about dyno mode. I guess it will completely turn off that traction control. How do I activate it? I will do a search...

All runs were done in sport automatic mode, and sometimes, when I was spinning too much in first gear and releasing throttle a little, it was short shifting at 4-5k RPM... So putting it in manual might help with that, but i'm not sure it will shift by itself?

Steve I would be happy to help you with the tune and any other RENNtech mods you were looking to do. We have some nice packages for the V12.

Thanks Mike! I narrowed down my choices to either RENNtech or Eurocharged. The RENNtech tune cost about a 1000$ more... Eurocharged also offer a TCU tune for the SL65. Does RENNtech offer a TCU tune or you think the SL65 doesn't need it? Thanks

We do not offer a TCU tune for that car. Any other questions please let me know.
