In the shop - Smartop

I have the car in the shop today. New brakes and rotors, smartop being installed, etc, etc.

They've installed the smartop and sent me a short video but I notice that when in operation the lights on the mirrors flash until it's complete. Does anyone know if that is by design and/or if it's programmable to switch it off?

TIA

Not sure, never tried.. I would imagine a good Tech can.
I read it was a warning indicator in the event it is activated mistakenly and clearance to open or close is an issue.. It's letting you know something is about to go honorably wrong!!

Smart Top

You should be able to disable the light flash in the smart top setup. Function 1, setting 2 should give you what you want. It's a little complicated trying to explain how to access the setup menu, but the full directions are available on the smart top web site. www.mods4cars.com

What shop did the install for you?

You will love the smart top. Nothing like putting up the top when it starts to rain without having to pull over and stop. The remote function is cool too.

I had Ed's MB Medics on Spring Road in Smyrna put it on. Easy as pie for them but I originally set up the programming before I took it in. They did a nice value add without saying anything and added a USB cable for me so I can update whenever I want. It was good thinking on their part and I should have thought about it before.

I'll hook it up to the computer when I play top down tonight!

Well, it's been 75 degrees here in Atlanta today so the top will be down when I finish up at the office in about an hour!

You should be able to program it with your steering wheel buttons.

Well, I don't see a way to program it via the steering wheel buttons and I'm not sure if that could be because of my modded stereo with functions that use the in dash programming.

That said, it's very easy for me to plug in the usb cable that's been installed and use the programming matrix from here; http://www.mods4cars.com/m4cupdate/i...BMZ1#ma_anchor

I have the latest firmware flashed to the module and I have these settings flashed on the module; 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 1, 0, 1, 1.

Things appear to be working as designed except the chirp on lock and the flashing hazards when the smartop is in operation.

Some have said that its normal and others say that the hazard light flashing can be turned on and off in the matrix so what am I missing?

Any advice guys? TIA

take a closer look at the function/settings matrix
you want to set function 1 to setting 2.
"I have the latest firmware flashed to the module and I have these settings flashed on the module; 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 1, 0, 1, 1."
try these settings; 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 1, 0, 1, 1
enjoy!

I'll try that tonight. Thanks Kensan.

Thanks again Kensan. I changed function 1 to program 2 as you suggested and got rid of the hazards while opening. I've also read the instructions online now and yes, I am able to get into the programming menu through the dash so that's good too.

I still have no joy on function 6. My horn, etc works like normal but I get no chirp. I've tried changing the function 6 from setting 3 (chirp on unlock/lock) to setting 6 which is siren but still no luck.

It looks like I need professional help!!! Thanks for the suggestions.

RoundTheBenz, i'm not sure i understand your chirp situation. my setting is 2 for funtion 6. the term "chirp" is a little misleading. my horn "honks" on unlock, which i've done so i can hear it so i don't hit unlock too many times and roll down the windows or open the roof by accident. do you want to turn it on/off or are you expecting an actual "chirp"?

Exactly what I want is for the horn to beep on lock and unlock how you describe.

you have the correct settings and have updated the firmware. i would take it back to where you had it installed and let them troubleshoot it, or if you have time on your hands, you can contact mods4cars & try and troubleshoot it your
self. there is a diagnostic mode in program.

I think I've found the solution but I haven't had time to try it yet but I thought I'd post anyway. I'll let you know when I get to it.
