wow, thats almost as big as those on the Continental GT. Are you sure those pictures werent of the formula 1 package sl55? Will the sl65 be standard with those. I cannot really see, but if you have a higher quality picture you may be able to see if it says V8 or V12 on the fenders, im guessing it looks like v8 but i could be wrong.

Oh and by the way, ive tried but i cannot get the site to English, does anyone know how to?

Its public premiere celebrates the SL 65 AMG on the cars Show in New York. To the dealers 612 HP strong roadster, to which between 2.000 and 4.000/min a torque of 1.000 Nm keeps ready, will roll in June 2004. According to factory specification kept in track the SL 65 AMG in only 4.2 seconds of zero on speed 100, which 200 km/h mark was already after 12.9 seconds is reached. For the power transmission the AMG speed SHIFT five-course automatic transmission with additional manual flow programme over steering wheel circuit provides. The increased output of the roadsters of the world required modifications at the transmission components, strongest after Mercedes diction. Thus among other things the clutch lamellas were again developed and a revised switching and transducer bypass logic were used. Special drive shafts, more largely dimensioned wheel carriers and camps as well as special feather/spring steering wheels at the rear axle supplement the change. Series feature strengthens the driver to support the Active Body control chassis with special shock struts and more tautly co-ordinated absorbers. Depending upon characteristic diagram the driver can reduce the **** and pitch motions of the car. In addition for the AMG edition ABS, Brake Assist, ASR and ESP were modified. A high speed brake assembly with brake disks of the dimension 390 x of 36 millimeters at the front axle and 360 x of 26 millimeters at the rear axle is to order to the power as well as the standard electrohydraulical high pressure brake SBC stop. Optically the AMG aMG-Roadster differs by a changed front apron with clearly larger air intakes, which the fresh air supply to water -, engine oil and intercooler to ensure are. Is it just me or is it a big letdown that the power is only 612hp? Or did i misread something? Also i was hoping for a facelift. I dont think ill be ordering one if it looks just like my SL55 and only has 120 more horsepower.

Will the V12 be replaced soon after the new 4valve V8 6.3 liter is out late 2005? and be a new V12 48 valve ?

I think it will take more than 612 hp in a car of that mass to crack a 10.

 

Even the McLaren F1 can't bust into the high 10s(11.1@138mph)


The new 6.3ltr V8 would replace the 55(K) AMG models, I don't think the V12 AMGs would be replaced anytime soon.

 

Put some tires on that baby and 10's would be in the bag at that mph!

The whole point is that for the approximately $175,000 the SL65 is going to sell for, i think we should get alot more than just an extra 120hp stock, WITHOUT TUNING. The 5 speed transmission is what really bugs me the most right now.

BMW's quote for the E60 M5 for 0-200 km/h is 13 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is just 0.1 second slower than that BOAT!!! OMG!!!! No wonder Benz needs all that power, their cars are probably soooooo unefficent and/or weigh like a damn BOAT!!

 

Oh, and not to mention it has a slushy!!!!

 

My SL55 will do 12.4 in the 1/4 so the SL65 is going to be very fast with HP and TQ increase if you can get the tires to stick look out. The SL600 is faster than my SL55 so the SL65 is going to be a power monster in the high 10s to mid 11s in the 1/4 mile

I think the SL65 will pull away from the E60 with ease, The MB stated numbers are conservative as always.

Hmmmm just looks like a normal SL55 with F1 pack. Love the rims though

 

Of course it'll look just like the SL55. AMG usually only does one body package per model. The front bumper comes straight from the F1 Safety car and was already offered in Germany as part of the performance package. So there is really nothing new with the exception of the carbon fiber trim. The car seems lower than normal though.

Btw, the facelift should not really happen until 06 (model year in late 05). I also seem to recall that the horsepower had to stay below the SLR for political reasons.

Either way, for $175K is car is much cheaper than in Germany and you pay for the rarity (less than 500 units over two years).
