UK SL55 build dates coming through now
A couple of months back all the UK dealers submitted their SL55 order list info to MB UK who where going to sort the list and allocate the dealers appropriate positions on the list
The production starts in June.
Well, I just got allocated my build slot - as I placed a deposit 5 years ago I expected to be high on the list and have ended up with a June build (it was either 1st decade (10 days) or 2nd, cant quite recall)
So, any of you UK guys with SL55 orders who ordered a long time ago (and I know of a couple) should be getting your build slots shortly

Our colors are called different to yours, so
Dark blue exterior
Light grey interior (limited interior colors on the SL55)
Designo alcantara roof lining
All options except the exclusive leather and the roof-rack preperation (the former is too soft and marks easily aka my old CLK55, the later gives you odd clip points at the top of the A pillar)

obviously this roof is vastly different than the hardtop on the R129, but do keep in mind that on the R129 the Panorama roof was not retrofittable. i assume it will be on the R230, but there's some unpleasant history, FWIW.

I thought that if you had a post model year 1997 SL, you could put the glass hard top on if you wanted. You needed a MY97 or later because that was when they introduced the windows that drop slightly as you open the doors.
The glass top was hugely expensive on the R129 SL, Id guess the parts arent so bad, as its just really a new top panel, some glass and some interior trim.
I looked on my dealers EPC system a couple of days ago, and it doesnt show the glass roof parts yet .

R129 Roofs
Richard - I was shopping for a 1999 or 2000 SL600 and wanted the Panorama Roof. I figured I'd buy a non-Pano roof (easier to find) and just source a new "part". My dealer told me that the post structures in the body to accept the roofs were different and that they were not interchangeable. You had to stick to the roof the car was ordered with.

Ouch, the glass roof is *much* heavier, so it may well be true. I'll look at the dealer's EPC parts catalog when Im there next and see if the mounts are different, or if your dealer was talking rubbish ....
