That carbon fibre trim looks great, and the new nav looks of higher quality too. I thought that they would put the alcantara on the top of the instrument cluster not under. Although the alcantara looks way better than the plastic, I would get it on the top too, not the whole dash, but just that seperated section.

The alcantara leather also goes on top of the instrument cluster as well as the inside of the bezels, as you can see.

The nav is similar to the S class. I was at the dealer yesterday ordering the '05 SL55 and they told me about the changes. See my other thread.

The SL pictured above is the 2005 SL65, the '04 SL500 also on display contained the CD based navigation system. Also, I wouldn't be so sure that the interior details shown above will trickle down to the "lesser" SLs-- I was told that the SL65 will go for "a little above $200,000" when it hits the market.

Felix, where did you get your info about the July introduction of the DVD nav in the SL? I was told that it will be standard in the '05 SL, which should hit the states in Sept/Oct.

I ordered my '05 SL55 to replace my 500 yesterday. The '05 SLs are due to come out during the summer. I'm slated to get my 55 around late August/early Sept.

Alcantara leather on the instrument cluster and headliner are standard on the 55, 65 and 600 but not on the 500.

Could my dealer change my CD based NAV into a DVD based system

i got the info from www.jesmb.de (a very good mercedes-news site) but to change from CD-Nav to DVD is impossible i think. i.e. the c-class face-lift got the same and a new middle-console because this thing is bigger than the old one.

Are you sure it's also on the 600? I remember sitting in a 600 at the dealer and was disappointed because it did not have the alcantara gauge covers.

I'm pretty sure about the alcantara leather on the 600s. I was at Ray Catena last Friday and they had 2 'base' SL600s and they both had the alcantara liner and cluster cover.

I love the trim, does dvd command mean you will be able to play dvds on this stock screen as well as nav?

I too like the Alacantra trim on the instrument cluster. In fact I looked into getting my cluster covered in Alacantra but, it only came in Graphite and not in Ash to match the rest of my interior.

...and to answer the 600 question about Alacantra lining. It is only on the roor liner and around the windshield but not on the insturment cluster.

Those are not buttons, but rather a "+" and a "-" sign. Behind them on the rear of the steering wheel are buttons that allow the driver to upshift and downshift.
