Add mentions a "QUAIFE LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL! RENNTECH CARBON FIBER AIRBOX AND LOWERING MODULE"
Doesn't say anything about a Renntech tune. Planning to contact the seller, but before I do, wanted to check here first to see if anyone knows the car.
Also, have a really dumb question: did they make an 05 or 06 SL65 in black? True black, not black metallic and not cocoa brown that looks black in pictures. I really like black cars, although I admit they are a pain to keep clean. But they look stunning when they are clean.
Any help appreciated.
Same car is on ebay.

I'll tell you right now, no one in there right mind would spend the money on the Quaife rear diff. without a tune. So I'd say its a safe bet its been tune. Not to mention that steering wheel alone is about $2500 to $3000. The Stereo upgrade probably cost at least 2K and we all know HRE wheels aren't cheap. So think the owner didn't do a tune would be mind blowing.
If you buy it I would probably check or just replace the cooling pump($100 to $135 quick DIY job). They are notorious to be a weak link in the system with many still operational but not to peak performance causing heat soak very quickly or not giving you full boost.

I was thinking the same thing. Dealers rarely know the true history of the car, so I was hoping the previous owner or a friend of his / hers hung out here and could tell me what has been done.
Did a general internet search and found nothing. Would really like to talk with the p.o.

Don't Designo interiors have badging?
I had the same question about my post of the SL65 I saw today. I thought all SL55 and SL65's has the same rear bumper. (I have a P30 so I have an SL65 front bumper) The rear bumper on the car I saw is what I thought the
newer style bumper the facelifted SL63 has. I don't think that is a Designo interior. It looks identical to mine. I think the Designo badge is only being used on newer models.
Nice car, with nice upgrades. Add carbon fiber trim on top of everything mentioned above. Do a ppi at the dealer and check the wmi report and see if coil packs, engine mounts and rotors were ever replaced. Our 2007 has the exact same rear bumper.
I'd be scared to purchase that car at that price. That SL65 was for sale for a really long time in the Atlanta area when I was in the market and see that's it's for sale now in the Jersey area according to your post. Unfortunately, I don't have more information to give about the SL as I didn't look at the car myself but you have to ask yourself why has no one snatched that car up in nearly a year.

I think it did change hands last year, and is now for sale again. Also spent time in CA. Do you remember the asking price when it was in Atlanta?
I am thinking $32k max. I don't even know if that would buy it. I know one of the auctions got over $31k and it was a no sale.
Thanks for your input. This may not be the right timing for me anyway, as I am in the middle of a big project converting an old warehouse to my new workshop.
One thing I have learned about cars, there is almost always another deal down the road.
I don't think I ever received an answer to my question about black SL65s. Did they make a true black SL65 in 05, 06 or 07. True black. No metallic. No dark brown. No midnight blue. Thanks for any help.
I went and looked at this car and was prepared to buy it and drive it home. I am in eastern PA and it was about a 2 hour drive. I asked them specifically about the condition of the car since I was driving 2 hours. Well, it's not nearly as nice in person as in the photos. There are a bunch of scratches on the front of the hood, on the lower valance, etc. There are some dings. The rear bumper was either replaced or something. The "screens" where the exhaust comes through were cut or bent or something. The drivers seat is worn decently right on the seam where you get in and out. The front and rear tires do not match (brand/model) and need to be replaced. It's going to need rear brakes. The ABC fluid was atrocious. For having cleaned this car up the best they could, the engine bay was dusty and dirty. I'm assuming this thing has been taken home by every sales person and you know what happens then.
I was looking for a driver, not a show car. I figured that the car must have been tuned with everything else that was done. I had a few minutes where the sales people weren't around so I popped the harnesses off of the computer and pulled the ECU. I expected to see a sticker or something from RennTech or someone on it. There was nothing. I would assume they would have a sticker on it. Maybe someone else can chime in on that. If it is not tuned, that makes me wonder if it has the differential or anything else that was stated.
Also, I got the Carfax printout from them. This car was all over the country and best I could tell, had a few thousand miles put on it while in the hands of used car lots.
I realize, before anyone starts saying I'm new on here, yes, I am. I was doing some research on these cars and came across this posting so I figured I would at least do my part and let people know that this car is not 100% as advertised...in my opinion anyway. For the mileage, I would expect it to be much nicer. I have a 150,000 mile SUV sitting in my garage right now that has been driven by my wife since new and is in better overall condition and that's a fact. My point is, anyone flying in to drive this car back or having this car shipped to them may be in for a big disappointment.

Justin. I don't care if you are new or not, at least now I have enough info that I can stop looking at this car. Given your description, it is not realistically priced.
Thanks a million. What a public service you provided. I would have had to pay someone to go look at it for me, as I wasn't going to take a chance of buying it sight unseen.
I looked at the car fax as well, and noticed how it went from Alabama to Georgia to Souther California and back to the east coast.

You don't have to thank me. I just know what it's like to travel a distance and find a vehicle that was not described accurately. I've done that twice. I almost did it again recently. There is a silver one in Florida. Actually a couple of them. One of them has all of the RennTech upgrades. I'm sure you saw that one. I sent him a message asking (nicely by the way) about the condition of the car such as any blemishes that he could describe since I would be flying there and driving home 1000 miles. He told me that it's a "13 year old car and all 13 year old cars have nicks, scratches, dings, and dents". I realize they have some liability if they say that the car is flawless and you fly in and nit pick it but I want them to at least give me an idea that it was taken care of.
Actually, that shows the condition of the one in NJ as well as the feeling I had when I looked at it in person. I was literally going to risk a couple of plane tickets from here to Florida to look at that car and hopefully make the 1000 mile trip back north in it instead of buying the one in NJ. And believe me...I'm not a rich guy that can afford to throw away a thousand dollars on plane tickets to fly down and have to fly back. The one in NJ would have been a WHOLE lot easier! I'll eventually find the one that is right for me. With these cars...you always have to try to find the best one that you can in the best condition that you can.
Now, I limit my vehicle purchases to something I can see before buying unless I'm prepared to take the chance on something.
Like you said earlier, there is always a better deal out there and another one to be had. One thing I noticed is that, when these cars show up for sale, they generally stay for sale for some time. While they are rare, it's definitely a buyer's market for these cars in these years. There are always more of them going up for sale.
Good luck with your search. You'll find the right deal, at the right time, in the right location, in the right condition.
Justin, just wanted to throw in an extra thank you for the information you provided to the OP. It's actions like this that make searching the forums worthwhile. Thanks for your input.
