Trickle charger
Hi guys, I use my SL55 once a week at most. What type of trickle charger should I get to keep the battery in perfect working order? Should I get 2 chargers - one for each battery? Thx

The cheap battery tenders work for me and my vehicles. I do have a C-tek charger that is a little more capable but honestly if you drive it once a week id say just buy a $30 battery tender.

Just picked up my CTEK 5.0 and hooked it up. Simple, easy and a neat looking machine. I’ve put it on the “normal” charging mode cos I’m not sure if the battery is an AGM. I’ve got the original Mercedes battery and I’ve attached a pic. Can anyone clarify whether this is indeed a “normal” battery or an AGM? Thx

That looks different than the battery in the trunk of my SL600.
Here is my AGM battery.

The picture AK posted looks like my under hood battery, and it has a sight glass. Note how in the picture I posted of the trunk mounted AGM battery the edge of the spare tire in the under floor trunk well is visible.
On a related point, in 18 years of SL ownership I have never needed a trickle charger. I just started my SL after leaving it sit for 23 days while on vacation. It started right up with all consumer functions fully operable. If a trickle charger is needed for a 2 week idle period there is likely a problem with one of the batteries or the car electronics are not properly shutting down.
