09 SL63 head bolts
Has anyone else had a failure of head bolts on an '09 SL63? Dealer says there is an LI document on this. Some engines noted to have bolts break resulting in coolant entering combustion chamber. Mine drank the coolant reserve tank dry. If this is a known defect in the bolts, why isn't it a manufacturer's defect?

More important than the VIN is the affected range of Engine Numbers
If original, your '09 C63's head bolts fall into that range.

Pretty certain all '09s have the defective head bolts, but if you want to check...
Step #1 Go to this website and plug in your VIN to get your build data & look for your engine number > https://carinfo.kiev.ua/cars/vin/mercedes/vin_check
Step #2 Refer to the attached technical service bulletin to see if your engine number falls within the affected range.
I have an '11 SL63 and unfortunately, it appears mine falls within that range. 45,000 mi so far and no issues, but I'm probably going to sell the car and from my observations on BAT, the difference in value for a car with the head bolts replaced if all else is in good order appears to be substantial, so I'm thinking I may replace mine even though no signs of trouble yet. I asked for a cost estimate at the Tucson MB dealer yesterday and they were dumbfounded as to why I'd want to do that, so finding a competent shop may be the biggest challenge.
BTW, there was a class-action lawsuit, however, as you can guess the court favored the big guy > https://www.jacobregarlaw.com/blog/2...on-for-the-m1/

Is there any data on what percentage of cars are affected?
