What is a splay? that is the button just upside down.
Its a part under the button that controls the 4 direction buttons below the snap-in button. You should be able to get this inexpensive part at MB which may come with a new snap-in button. You also may want to look under the seat or in the interior of your car for the part that is missing.
My mirror toggle pad was missing on my Jap R230 SL500 2003. Impossible to find a new toggle pad, except for some whole sur+ switch assemblies. I draw in 3D a one-piece part to combine the german version of the "tinymultipiece" switch. Works pretty well I think, and blends better in the interior than just a hole :-). Here U are my fellow R230 drivers, you can print it or have it printed in a 3D shop for small money.
