Why not a Ford GT

Why not a Ford GT when are going to spend 150K+ for a car. If you want performance I heard this is better than SLR and very close to Enzo, and costs about 150K + dealer raping. Then again a Ford is no Mercedes in the brand value.

No offence to anyone in this question. I wanted to hear your side of the story since you guys actually have the money to buy such cars.

I don't need a supercar for the average EVERYDAY driving. Besides, what's the percentage of people taking the car to the track, versus people driving it normally? I think it's well above 90% of people that only will drive it on the streets, and not on the track.

The Ford GT is a sweeeeet car, but i think it would suck as an everyday driver. As some of us have said many times, the SL AMG cars are extremely versatile and do so many things incredibly well that no other car can do.

Although the GT is an incredible sports car, I think most of us that buy AMG mercedes are into them for the mix of luxury and performance. If I was only interested in Performance, I would definitely go with the Ford GT, but since I'm interested in a mix of performance and luxory, I chose AMG over everything else

it is a point of diminishing return on high powered cars. yes , we would like to brag to can out accelerate ,out handle alot of cars. but i can safely say some 90+% of high luxury car performance car owner drive in the city where speed limit is anywhere between 50-60km/hr. in some part of city in australia it is down to 40km/hr - oh what a waste !!!

Bone Head Ford Dealers

I have been to a half dozen Ford stores and every one of these genious sales people have zero idea about the car. Every time they say, "Duh? Let me get my manager", and then this PhD candidate comes over and says he knows nothing about the car....but would I like a Saleen Mustang or an F150.

I have tried to place an order for this thing and it is impossible. Does anyone know if they have delivered any?

IngenereAMG,

http://www.fordvehicles.com/fordgt/index.asp?bhcp=1 (official gt40 site)

In Faq section:

Where will the Ford GT be priced?
The final MSRP won't be released until just before the car goes on sale. We are forecasting final MSRP to be under $150,000.

When will the first vehicles arrive at Dealerships?
Limited production of the Ford GT is projected to start spring 2004 as a 2005 model.

Which Ford Motor Company dealers will offer the new Ford GT for sale?
All Ford Dealers will be eligible to sell Ford GT. Allocation and distribution of Ford GT inventory will be communicated at a later date.
--------------------

Or you can pay a premium of $185,000 for it on ebay - it hasn't been built yet, but it looks like someone has a spot in line -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6057

Good luck,
Dean

Dean:

Thanks for the links. But that's the point...Ford says one thing and the dealers have no clue. That deal on ebay is on something that I'm not sure will even be built or when. Ford has a great concept here but no execution, dealer communication or even production....I can't even imagine what customer service on this thing would be. The dealers are used to pedaling Escorts, Mustangs and F150s. I think that customers that are spending in excess of $150K will require a bit more attention than their usual fair. I doubt if they can pull it off.

only the dealers that are presidential award dealers will get the gt ford for the first deliveries. a friend of mine has a ford store. they sold theirs at about 20k over list. most are going to high bidders. wait a year and they will be around for better prices.

Agreed. I was surprised to see such little documentation on where to purchase and how. I am friends with the owner of Quirk Ford in Mass. Next time I talk with him, I'll ask and get back to you.

In the meantime, I'm sure your AMG will keep you smiling

Simple, Ford GT has no trunk, not at all. even 911 turbo has a trunk! I take my SL55 shopping all the time, can Ford GT do that?
Plus, most people ( specially ladies ) reconize MB. When I show the GT picture to my wife, she respond "what the heck is that?"
