Noisy Throttle Body - whineing and clicking
2003 SL55

I have had a whining and clicking noise from the engine for a while. It seems to be coming from the throttle body. I have posted a video here

I have tried cleaning the throttle, but made no difference. There are no error codes in Star and the car starts and runs ok.

Just about to sell the car. Time for a new throttle body ?

Ok, I'm embarrassed to say I hadn't tried pulling the power plug from the throttle body. That reduces a little of the whirring and clicking sounds but the main whine is still there. Is there something underneath the throttle body that could be causing it >

I was just about to post mine. Mine is really loud and causes a check engine light...



I am assuming its the throttle body...p0505 error code

Sounds similar, can you here it without motor running too ?

Anyone figure out what the problem was? Mine is doing the exact same thing. I have a CEL and beginning to have really bad or no Throttle response at all.

Two actuators
I pulled the electrical connector from the throttle body but the whine was still there. There is a second actuator underneath the throttle body for the “bypass” valve. The bypass valve looks a lot like a throttle body. Very early SL55s apparently didn’t have the bypass. Unfortunately you need to remove the supercharger to get access.
I saw an ad for a blanking plate so the bypass can be deleted, apparently it does increase fuel consumption a little. If I was doing the work to replace or delete the bypass I would be tempted to go for a bigger throttle body and intake while pulling everything apart.

Did you ever figure out what it was? I'm having the exact same issue with my cl55.
