Chrysler made a concept cars with a supercharged 55 engine. From memory it had a 5 or 6 speed sequential manual type gearbox (sort of like the SMG type). I wonder if this could be fitted to the SL, as this may be more fun and as the engine was heavily modified from the stock engine to produce more power, it may be able to handle more torque. Anyone got any information on this gearbox or if it is available or if it will fit the SL?

The Chrysler ME Four-Twelve had a seven-speed sequential gearbox and put out 800hp, and 850lb-ft of torque, but I don't think they'd use that for the SL seeing as they didn't even use it for the SLR.

The sequential boxes for both the ME12 and the CLK GTR are set up for the M120 Engine and in the mid engine configuration with transaxle...won't work in front engined SL65 new "type 12" engine

Oh yes that true, so I guess there is no hope for that happening. Bob728, I wouldn't expect Mercedes to use it, but I thought an after market tuning company may have it as an option or maybe it could be installed by any proffesional if the box was available.

I looked into other possibilities: Street version of the CLK-DTM uses same tranny as the SLR so that's out....Racing version of the CLK DTM was another thought...5 speed sequencial...could probably handle the torgue? naybe but again this is configured as a transaxle...would require significant chassis mods...so that's out too

Why please? I thought the SLR had essentially the same tranny as the other AMG's. Also, the gearbox in the racing version probably is not built to last long, so that probably wouldn't be a sensible choice anyway... Looks like we will have to wait for the 7 speed. Initially I thought it would come out for the 05 or 06 model, but I haven't heard any signs ofit coming.

Not sure what you men by "Why please?"

the racing version of the CLK-DTM uses a manual sequential transaxle

the street version of the CLK-DTM uses the 5sp speed shift auto box ala SLR/SL 65

the point being that the street CLK-DTM does not use a manual tranny

You say that you cant use the street version of the CLK DTM because it is used in the SLR. Why would this matter? And I thought the SLR used the same gearbox as the SL65, which is what I also understand from your last post. Maybe you were trying to day that there is no point using the street CLK-DTM gearbox because it is the same one as the SL65?

whole point is they are all automatics...none are manuals...SLR SL65 CLK-DTM Str. are all essentially the same tranny...when i looked into this I thought the Street CLK-DTM might come with a manual that one could maybe put in an SL...so such luck. make sense now?

Hello

I just finished the first 5400 km with my SL65 - and IMO there is no need for an "upgrade" or tuning on the engine. There is absolutely no lack of power in this car - using it almost every weekend and for long trips. As well if I would invest in such a modified "ECU" then I would loose the warranty by AMG. Not to mention how my gearbox would handle this increase of torque. (and of course all the rest of the parts, and electronic components ESP, ABS and so on).

Kind regards from France

Walter
