SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Noise from gas tank!

Noise from gas tank!
Can anyonw help? I have read over and over about the problems the SL55s are having with a "clunking" noise coming from behind the driver seat when going over any kind of bumps. My 04 SL55 have been at the dealer for almost a week now and they are giving me the runaround, saying they hear no "clunking". Well, I hear it and its driving me nuts! Can anyone steer me in the direction of a contact to expain to these people what the problem is? Im not even going to get into the "chirping" sound from the Scharger.

clunking from behind driver seat
Just got back from dealer. Still say that they cannot hear the clunking from the gas tank and now the roof is rattlling like crazy. Its more annoying then the other noise. Spoke with another dealer this morning that knows what the problem is. Referred from MBworld member. Thank you! Gonna pick up the car tonight from my dealer and bring it to the other one on tuesday. Supposed to fix the roof by tonight. We'll see.

My gas tank gave a clunking sound whenever I stopped hard or went over a bump. There is a flap that got loose in the gas tank. Had to change the entire gas tank. The dealer know about it when I brought it in. Test it yourself. If you hear clonking when you stop abruptly, its the flap. Have the dealer swap the entire gas tank.

I Have the same model and year as yourself and have experienced exactly the same problems. With the addition of a leaking boot (trunk). All problems have now been resolved with careful lubrication of all roof pivot points and stops, wherever there may be metal to metal and rubber to metal contact. The leaking boot was resolved by the dealer after I insisted that a £100k car with a leaking boot would be of interest to the media. New upgraded seals were fitted free of charge within seven days. I have experienced many problems with my SL but it is still the best car I have owned and at sixty I've had many. I've also overcome many problems with simple remedies and common sense. DON'T PANIC ! !
