sincerely doubt this "R" is a Mercedes designation. Likely a Renntech (or poser). Here is a video of an SL55r where it is referred to as a Rientech (Rientech?)

Yes, this one (above) is that uber-rare mercedes-Nissan joint effort . Someone merged the technologies by successfully cutting the "GT" off of a Nissan GT-R badge and then sticking the "R" on the back of an an SL55 : )

That is not a real SL55R, in fact I forget if I've ever really seen one!
There was a guy in a Mustang Forum that like to add a "R" to every Mustang he had - and got a lot of rash for doing it.
Mercedes people are even more rash to Mercedes posers! Especially AMG posers !
