Help! Air Intake Clip Broke During VCG Replacement

Hi folks. Hoping for some help here. When removing the air intake, I was trying to loosen the bottom clip that goes to the throttle body. I must have pushed too far, cause this clip broke off. It seems like another tiny piece may have broken off, too, and fallen deep down somewhere, because it doesn’t look like I can easily just glue or weld it back on. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

that throttle body y pipe caused me so many issues. I tried so many things to keep it tight, but I kept getting a vacuum leak. Eventually I replaced but best way for my was a clamp and zip ties lol

Thanks for the response. I’ve seen on forums were people experience your similar symptoms (throw a code) while others don’t worry about the clip since the housing is generally held in place with the other mounting points. I’ll hope for the best pending any other suggestions.

Thanks. This project is becoming more and more complicated. I planned to reseal the breather covers, but can’t detach them from the valve cover. I’m not going to force the issue given the soft material.

you def need to reseal them or they will continue to leak or get worse over time

Just came in from the garage after 2 1/2 hours of 1. Struggling to finally get the breather covers off and 2. Removing RTV from all surfaces and prepping for resealing. Exhausted!

DO yourself a favor and replace the breather cover screws (as the WIS indicates). Half of them rarely survive a second installation.

If you want to replace the clip (shown in your first pic), I think it is less than $2 and goes by part number 1120980039

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks so much, Chris. The MB sealant and new breather cover screws are coming tomorrow from FCP Euro. Received the MB valve cover gaskets and breather hoses today. Appreciate the help with the clip!

sounds like you are doing it the right way ... excellent : )

Since you are using the mercedes sealant (loctite 5970, great stuff), you should consider getting the correct tube gun (112586002500) . I paid $100 for mine, but looks like mercedes has obsoleted the number and it may have gone up some, but worth getting. I see FCP wants 190 (yikes) here it is for $130 https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/MB-112589002500.

I also like the mercedes spec'd sealant remover and sealant prep spray (part numbers 001986717109 and 0109899071)

Thanks again for the feedback. I read about others using a caulk gun. I’m hoping my Hapkido-strengthened hands won’t require it!

Mercedes feels pretty strongly about the bead size uniformity and that you mate parts within 10 minutes of applying sealant --- which is not so much of an issue when sealing VC breathers , but on oil pans (did this twice in the last few months) and rear-main seal covers, the time and bead size can become an issue if squeezing it out by hand

That’s a great point. I may try using my caulk gun to speed things up. Regardless, the feedback is greatly appreciated!
