SL 63 looking to buy one. Any suggs?
Hi,
I'm looking at SL 63's v 2022 vette. I 've never owned a vette but have owned a SEC500 which I really enjoyed. Now I'm after a convertible so the SL63 fits that bill. I did drive a 2009 63 with 80k miles. Nice car but a little beat up. Any "Beware ofs" for the 63?
Thnx in advance

Hi
Well maybe reading my Diary of a Lemon will help with most of the SL 63
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl63-amg-...amg-lemon.html
The SL 63 part of the SL R231 range seem a bit of a sub directory of Mercedes-Benz AMG Vehicles not and not SL R231 for some reason I missed it even existed and my thread was moved on to there so look there for tips
Mines all sorted now (hopefully) and its a great eye catching car to drive but do not buy one without an extended warranty and insist on a long test run say 30 miles or more as the clutch faults don't show up until the gearbox gets over 85C and that you can read on the dash
Expensive faults on ABC suspension are common as is a failed radio aerial amplifier and leaks on the V8 inlet. Mine was an exception but was sold by a large MB dealership and another failed to find obvious faults but a lot of arm twisting went on to get the car sorted and bits still exist
Busted inlet hoses seem very common as they are simply to flimsy
Check the Navi Map is updated and the Live traffic is current as its not cheap by other manufactures costs

MBWorld Fanatic!
If they haven't been done already, get the head bolts and lifters updated to the latest versions from Mercedes.
The SL63 has ABC 2, which is more reliable than its predecessor. Just make sure it's regularly serviced. Ignore dealer opinions of lifetime fluid and even the 40K service interval MB started to recommend. It's 25K miles or 5 years, whichever comes first.
The 722.9 MCT was hit or miss when it came out, but if an '09 is on the road with the original transmission today, it was either one of the good ones or resolved under warranty. It's a stout transmission that's happy when serviced regularly.

I have a 2009 SL63 which just turned 40K miles which I am about to put up for sale. It is Storm Red with Sand interior which I believe is extremely rare. Attached is the write up which will accompany the various listings for on-line auctions etc. I bought it about a month ago with an extended warranty and went thru it and serviced or updated all the things that need to be done to these cars to keep them running/operating properly. Oil and filter change with Mobil 1, ABC flush and filter change, Front and rear brakes were replaced with Hawk performance ceramic pads (the stock pads are the worst as far as dust that I have ever encountered), Replaced the command head unit and enabled the rear view camera option and installed the camera (which I understand was not available til 2011 in these cars). See the attachment for the rest of the service work and details. The car is fantastic but the trunk space is simply too small for my needs so it has to go. If your interested let me know and maybe we can keep it in the family.
