Smile Just installed Sat Radio in my SL65

Love it. Installation took longer than I expected but is well worth it. I did not use the factory antenna because I did not want to drill the trunk, so I bought a Terk mini (really small) and placed it in the front under the windshield in the corner of the dash. Works great. Also made some MP3 discs. Have 150 songs per disc. I am a happy camper now. All I need now is the factory phone which I am told will come later this mon th.

Hey you got some pretty cool cars. Good to see you have a cayenne turbo, I seem to be the only person to like it. What do you reckon of it?

I th9ink its the best SUV out there. If you need an SUV(which I do for shopping and my dogs), then a CVayenne turbo is the hbest money can buy. I had a G500, an ML430, two X5's (a 4.4 and a 4.6), and this one is better in every way. I rented a Range Rover for a day and hated it. Drove like a truck. The Cayenne turbo drove as close to a sports sedan as a truck can. Its the best SUV for me.

How about a quick comparison of your three cars. Likes/dislikes/performance.
I am looking for a new convert to replace my 355 spider and love the Ferrari looks but the interior blows and it is no where near as functional as an sl. (Maybe the 360 is much better)

Ferrari is the prettiest. INside is pretty to me also, but spartan with no amenities. Forget about all the advanced stuff in the SL--- you can't even get heated seats. Sound is fantastic with the tubi exhaust. Glas engine cover is very ompressive. Top works well too and is actually faster than the SL. Great steering, great balance. Most agile and neutral handling of the bunch.

SL has all the toys, has best straight line speed. Faster accelerating than anything I have ever driven, and I have driven a lot. Best daily driver out there. Very-near SLR performance (a chip can change that in a heartbeat), much more comfortable and useable for a fraction of the price, and it s a convertible too.

Turbo cab is somewhere in between. Not as pretty as either. Not as involving or exciting as the Ferrari, but more useable as a daily driver. Top works great, especially the fact that it can operate while in motion. Has some of the toys of the SL but much less. A compromise between the two for someone who wants sports-car feel as a daily driver. Costs much less than either so that adds tremendous attraction to itself to some.

I hope I don't start a war here or on some other boards.

Is there any reason why they chose the front dash under the windshield? I am looking at putting it under the rear windshield only it will have to go toward the middle.

Any help would be appreciated.

Its an SL. Most panels in the rear move when you put the top up or down. Besides, your antenna would then be underneath a solid panel instead of underneath glass.

I was putting it on the rear panel which only moves a little when the top goes down. The rear shelf is the part that is still exposed when the top is down and it you look at how it all works you will see that you could easily put the antenna there without disruption. The only thing I am worried about is the wire.

Any thoughts?

The wire is a problem, and you can't bend the wire close to the antenna too much. Besides, I don't like the antenna visible from the outside. Mine is underneath the front windshield on the driver's corner. I will try to post a pic later. You will have to buy a few parts to do such a custom installation, and some extra running of the wire from the front to the back, but aesthetically so much better. If I had to do it the factory way, I would not have done it.

Thanks, if you could post pictures that would be fantastic. Also, I have a Kenwood CX-SR40 Sirus Radio Antenna which has a flexible wire. What manufacturer did you use and if you could list the parts, that would also be great? Also, did you here of the person that put the antenna outside underneath the hood in the section underneath the black grill where the windshield washer is on the outside drivers side just in front of the windshield? Did you consider this position?
