Tire/Wheel Sizes

I want to change my wheels on my 04 SL55 to Lowenhart BR-5. I am trying to figure out what the best sizes to get are given the following -
• don't want any rubbing or damage with normal driving
• want bigger tires from a look perspective
• slight impact to ride is ok
• considering lowering the car too
Right now, I was thinking of getting 20x9 wheels in the fronts and 20x11 in rears with 245/35/20 front tires and 285/30/20 in the rears. My shop is recommending that I get 255/30-20 in the front and 305/25-20 in the rear. Does anyone have setups they recommend or have issues with? Should I stick to 19" if I want to lower the car later? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check out the sig below for tire/wheel set up. No rubbing front or rear, even with a 1" drop via the Brabus lowering module. I did have the wheel wells rolled in the rear to accomodate the 305's.

Good luck!

This is not my car shown below, but does show the same tire and wheel setup.

I would stick to 19 inch wheels. The 1 inch will have a large impact on handling, tyres will cost far more, and the handling will not be as good due to heavier wheels and less ability of the tyres to stick to the road. And 1 inch will not make a large difference appearance wise.

What is "Wheel wells rolled" actually mean. I was thinking 295's. Think they will fit without rolling wells?

From what I understand it's using a special tool to bend the underpanel in the wheel well to make more room for the tire. Not sure if the 295 will rub or not. On my CL500 I couldn't fit anything wider than a 285 without some kind of rubbing unless the wheel well was opened up just a bit.

Listen to Mike

He knows what he is talking about. He set up my new '05 SL55 with the 20" LD5's and the Continental tires. I have gotten more compliments on that tire/wheel package in the month I have owned the car thatn I have ever gotten with any other car I have owned. And it rides like a dream!

I second that. Yes, 20's will look better, but 19's are much more practical. For as much as you want the rear tire to be wider, does anyone ever think of understeering problem?
