No, you get the message "Roof locked in driving mode".

I think it also may depend on how fast you are driving. I havent tried opening or closing my roof while driving for the fear of damaging something. So i always do the deed with the car in park. But i have seen it done while just rolling along very slowly.

If you start moving your car and not pass 10 mph your roof still pack or unpack as you say but if you pass this speed your roof will lock until you stop the car.

The Mercedes roof is much heavier and much more complex and you risk things like the roof creaking if it gets out of alignment. That's why the roof will not open from above a very low speed. If you do move off while it is opening, the process will stop.

Better Question:

Why would you want or need to put your top up or down while driving? Rain would be the only reason I can think of - and I just don't put my top down when the chance of rain is great.

i yust asked

Cause i did also thot that while driving high speed it may damage the roof pacing system. And i am sure that when i am driving my SL 55 AMG i will not try to pack the roof and then while it still pacs the roof to engage.
But yes only thing is then when starts raining then i think i always find a spot to stop and pack the roof.

I was on a side street at the lights on Sunday and started lowering the roof. Unfortunately the light turned green and there was one car behind me. The roof was 3 quarters down, so I thought I'd test whether it would keep going. Either way, I didn't want the guy behind me getting impatient and honking his horn. I was pleased to see that as I slowly turned left the roof finished lowering. It's a good thing to know when you are at the lights and the mood strikes to put the top down, but you afraid of potentially holding up the traffic if you don't time it just right, that it still works up to 10MPH...
