R231 collapsable spare
The R231 will use the R230 19" spare. There is no spare for R231

175/50/19 tire 19x6.5 14ET
It is used in E63, CLS63, maybe S63

did you purchase from a MB dealer? if so, cost?
does the carpet top lid still fit when the spare is placed in your picture?

dont know I wouldnt think the carbon caliper is any bigger than others, but if the car has 19 front it should, I would think it fits them all

If someone can confirm caliper clearance, I would love to have a spare.
I shredded a tire on the CLK63 and two tow trucks and $300 later I got it home and found they had lost the tow hook cover. grrr.
I would rather limp home on a donut spare than have to drag it on and off of flatbed with a flat / shredded tire.

there is nothing under the carpet in my car's trunk, no jack, no tools, nothing...
did you buy a jack and lug wrench too? Is there a specific area to jack up the car?

you have to make up your own tools. I bought a e55 jack , 2115830215. its the same as 230 jack. any lug wrench. you should have the compressor with the car.
you can get all that on ebay

thank you
so it appears with the wheel in the trunk and the carpet on top, you give up considerable trunk space?
my '14 SL550 with ABC came with regular tires, not run flats, yet it has no spare, no tool kit, no air pump, nothing...

you would put the tire on top of the carpet, I still have room for one lg duffle on the side and one loose filled duffle in the wheel. and there is room below the carpet for a med duffle and tools. plus small areas around the trunk to stuff odds. of course I took out the big cover mechanism.
I think every car is supposed to have the comp and tire fix bottle, and its in a foam holder below the carpet. its in the manual too, so somebody stole yours. Unless the car has runflats. so somebody put on wrong tires or stole the parts.

nothing under the carpet in my trunk, not sure what happened, I ordered that green slime tire repair kit, comes with sealant and air pump, so I plan to use that pump to inflate the spare
I appreciate your help, thank you

I had the 19" spare for 7 years for my SL 65 and it bailed me out a couple times and fit over calipers no issues......I laid the spare upside down in the truck, so I could put things in the inside of the wheel for storage space, etc.....you do have room on the sides of the spare for groceries or a small duffle bag for traveling.....usually I put things behind the seats in the interior when I traveled....there is a leather suitcase bag you can buy for behind the seats, but it is expensive and hard to find......I think they were over $ 500 for the suitcase a few years back....
I bought a compressor, jack and lug-nut wrench and I was good to go....those items stored in the regular storage department below the carpeting.....
traveling with the spare gave me confidence to drive anywhere..anytime....the goop stuff the car came with does no good if the tire that goes is slashed open, etc....
The spare was not available from the dealers for the SL specifically, but for the other cars mentioned previously in this thread......I got mine from overseas....

If'n someone wants a donut (CLK500) or shifting compact spare (CLK55), neither of which clears the front calipers, but fit the back of a CLK63... by which I mean for someone without a CLK63... let me know.
