That's like comparing apples to oranges. One is a spec race car and the other is a luxury rocket. In a staight line the M has the advantage. The BMW has a power to weight ratio of 0.186538461538. The #'s for the SL are 0.16254245511. The difference is 0.023996006421. It really would be a drivers race. Now if you put a couple of turns in the race than the BMW will win hands down. The SL was never built to do what the BMW does and vise versa.

Much prefer the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series! Not just that it has a boosted version of its 6.0 liter bi-turbo V12 up to 680 hp but it reaches a top speed of 220 mph but electronically limited to 186 mph (300 km/h), 0-60 mph rushe by in less than 4.0 seconds.

Really the back is more stripped out than the regular SL, its well equipped but its meant to be an extremely well-handling car. I think it would be close.

Sorry to bring this back, but for what its worth it definately would not be close. Look up lap times clk black series does Nurburgring in 7:45 which really fast for a street car. You can expect a similar time from the sl65 black. M3 gtr does 7:00. Its a race car. Apples and oranges! 1522lb weight difference!

It's hard to compare a race car to a street car (even though its a beast). They are built for different purpose.

A straight line race with similar tires would be close though.

The M3 GTR is an all out track car which should be compared to a PORSCHE 997 GT3 RSR for example. Straight line performance would be hard to say considering the M3 has a 1500lbs weight advantage over the SL65 BS. On the turns the M3 GT3 would win hands down.

Porsche 996 gt3 cup, 09 Audi R8
ya, not even CLOSE. The GTR would completely dominate the black series.

My cup is at a dynoed 457 hp and weighs 2580 lbs...same deal, would take one on at any track around here with no qualms...lap after lap after lap etc. And folks, I LOVE the black series, but even a stock 996 cup car is probably quicker than on even at VIR...that would be a more interesting race though...
