Where are they?

I thought a few here had some of the first ones. Where are the garage pics? Nice car but its no race car so scrapping the convert top for the little weight it saved was a bad idea to me. That is the big draw to the SL. At 300k it is now in a tough category. Should be interesting to see how it shakes out.

me personally, if i had 300k to buy my sole exotic/supercar/etc. ...it would definitely not be the SL65 BS...its going to lose value like the CLK BS and besides I'd opt for the F430 or Murcielago instead

I thought the Murcielago is 100k more than the SL Black? Anyway, I'd asked couple of my friends about the SL Black, only one said he would get it, others would go for F430, 599, or LP560-4 and mod it out.

The Murci is ancient tech but the new Ferrari 16M would get my money before this black. If we are talking used I would say SLR,599 or if you are lucky maybe a Carrera GT will all fare far better in the long run for the same money. This car should have kept the convert top, got exciting doors like the SLR to differentiate it from the normal SL's and they should have figured a way to use the Euro seats to save the weight. The changes they made to a normal SL65 hardly justify the price difference but thats just my opinion. I am sure it is still a fun car to drive though.

Agreed, just yesterday, a local dealer is selling a brand new 2008 SL65 with 36 miles on the clock for 159K. It's a steal when you compare it with the Black.

QFT. The SLBLK could have had a few extra features, i.e. Euro seats, to differentiate it more from a regular SL65. With that said, I still want one

Reason they can't do Euro seats in the US cars is because of side airbags. I don't know if it's a must, but this seems the case of US bound CLK Black. With that being said, if I were allowed to, I would pick up the 159k SL65 I saw, then send it to Seibon to get all the carbon fiber body panels custom made minus the folding roof, call up KW to get suspension bits, and finally knock on Recaro's door to get some carbon kevlar seats installed. After those are done along with Renntech's upgrades & custom exhaust for the car, I think a regular SL65 should perform and weight along the line of a SL Black, while being a lot cheaper.

You really think you could do that cheaper? Just changing out the suspension would cost you an unbelievable ammount. I think you would be shocked to see how quickly your 150K was spent.

Honestly....I'd snap up a slightly used 599 GTB for $290k before I'd buy the SL BS. Plus the F-car is gonna hold value a lot better than the Black Series.

If I could put a race car together for under 180k and made it went 8s in the quarter, this should be a walk in the park compare to that.

F car prices are crashing right now as well....

Great time to be a buyer in the used exotic market.

Should be but the complexity of making major changes to a SL65 vs building a race car from the ground up are not even close.

Each pose their own challenges but I would take working on a race car any day!

Been away from messing with cars lately. Some great deals out there right now but with market uncertainty and winter I am watching how things go. I would like to get something that doesn't drop 50k per year like most things I seem to choose! Hope all is well!

This car is vastly over priced. Initial reviews says it can't hide it's weight and I think it is over-styled. Used "regular" SL65 makes mores sense for everything but bragging rights while the 599 just stomps it in every category (except ease of modding but then why buy a BS edition SL just to mod it?)
