Installing Supersprint Header

Tommorrow morning I, along with my mech friend, are going to install my Supersprint header. I have the Supersprint muffler on order. I have already installed the crankshaft pulley from ASP Racing. What a gain of HP. WOW!!! I am also looking for a larger intercooler and have a tiwn air cone filter to replace my air box. I am hoping to find any of you who have any info/advice for these and any other upgrades. I drive a magma red 2003SLK230. I love that damm car. I am considering topping it all off with a Powerchip ECU upgrade. I would like to level out at 240-250HP. I think that with the larger crank pulley I am well on my way. I also hope that getting the car smoged in San Diego will not be a problem. I have kept all OE from the car for re-install if need be to get smoged.

The header is in! It took us about 5 hours. We sort did a fly by our pants operation but it is great. I will upload photo once that portion of this site is up and running. I still must wait 4 more weeks for the Supersprint meffler so Saturday my friend is going to let me borrow his AMg muffler. I will update at that time. Along with the steps involved and tools neded. Simple but it takes patience and a lot of Starbucks.

A friend of mine installed the same kit . (SLK 230 ) He used it for a couple of
months and decided to remove headers and also the rest ..The reason was the metalic sound of the exhaust. He claims that supersprint has a strange sound ..Well he doesnt like exagerrated roaring ones either .
I would like to buy AMG or Supersprint but im confused at the moment..
Have you experienced a strange sound?

I am still waiting for my Supersprint exhaust. It has made life for my stock muffler really backed up with pressure. I have heard no such sounds except the sound of increased performance. Go to slk32.com. Dave has 4 sound files with the Supersprint exhaust. How can a person not like that sound. I also have the crank pulley from ASP Racing and am working on a custom air box. After the exhaust (April 6th is the latest date from Supersprint) I am going for a Powerchip ECU upgrade. I will do a before and after dyno so I can see if it was worth the money. They offer a 14 day money back G. and I like that. When I get the exhaust I will send you a MPEG with the muffler if you like. My email is steve872@hotmail.com.

Some people with C coupes ('02 2.3) had mixed results with larger intercoolers. Chipping is not all its cracked up to be either. Search the W203 forum. I do love my pulley though! Has Supersprint dynoed the header mod?

Supersprintusa.com posted a before and after dyno based upon a SLK200 and one of their 3 mufflers they offer. The muffler that they conducted the tests with requires that you modify your rear bumber for install. They posted a 17hp gain. Check out their website. Soon I will dyno my car and post the results. I want to check my timing and fuel/air ratio and ensure the car is running at optimum performance before I dyno the car. So far I have the ASP Racing pulley, Green Cotton air filter and the Supersprint header/muffler. Car is much faster than stock but I feel you can only get so much bolt on HP without opeing up the engine for camshafts and internal upgrades. I really enjoy the car so much more now and it sounds awesome but it will always be an inline 4. Next time I go AMG all the way.

Did the header install eliminate the "exhaust leak" sound?

The car sounds like a new car and with the pulley upgrade, Green Cotton air filter, and Supersprint header/muffler it is a new car to me. The exhaust sounds awesome. I love Supersprint products as they fit better than OE and are light weight. The stock header weighs 12lbs and the Supersprint header weighs around 4 lbs. I am going to weigh the stock muffler with resonator and will post the weight. I bet it weighs around 30 lbs and the Supersprint muffler is at least half of that. Weight reduction is an area of performance upgrades that most people ignore. I had a flat tire recently and the stock 7 spoke chrome wheel must have weighed at least 20 to 25 lbs. Replacing those with a much lighter wheel could save 40 to 60 lbs. Add it all up and I will be at least 100lbs lighter than a stock SLK230. Any little thing to reduce weight is a good thing.

Did you install the header without using a car lift? I guess the main question would be, did you have to remove some engine accesories (ie air box, supercharger, etc....) in order to remove/install the header?

Thanks for the links. I can do most auto repairs, but removing the suprcharger is one component I wouldn't want to mess with. If that part doesn't go back on correctly, there will be problems.

congrats on the upgrade. let us know when you get a chance to run it on the dyno.

with the pulley and exhaust upgrade, your motor will probably be the bottleneck in the future.

I anticipate doing a dyno on the car sometime this summer. I called Supersprint today and they told me that the Supersprint muffler I installed on the car weighs in at 19lbs and the stock muffler/resonator weighed in at 39lbS!!! That is over 20lbs less I am towing around. I could not get any info on the chrome 7 Spoke Mercedes rims on my car so in June I am going to weigh the rims, front and rear. I know that when I had a flat tire recently I could believe how much that chrome rim weighed. It was heavy. While I was at Discount tires a guy with a C32 drove in and was having them install some H&R rims. He paid over 4.5K from the Wheel Exchange on line and they were so light I could not believe it. Just by changing out those heavy chrome rims with some light weight rims I can reduce the cars weight by another 80lbs. When I buy my wife her SL500 I am going to consider replacing the stock seats with some racing seats. I will post my dyno results when I do it. The car is much faster now.

By the way. CLK&SLK is my good friend and awesome mech who does all my installs. There is nothing that he cannot do with a wrench except make some Starbucks for me. Have any questions, ask him. He is the MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
