PSE, Central Locking & Alarm problems. HELP!

I recently changed the pump on my wife's SLK 230K (1999), it was corroded. We found the alarm / central locking & the window drop (on door opening) wasn't working anymore, all these things started happening which is when I noticed the pump problem. I replaced the pump but the only thing that changed is that I can now use the central locking from the dash button. Do I need to get the new pump coded to the car, could the pump fault take out the alarm also?

I'm completely confused now, I thought the new pump would rectify all the problems...

Please help me!

To answer your question-Yes the PSE needs to be coded to the vehicle. Also make sure the plugs that go to the PSE are cleaned of corrosion too.

I am having a new PSE fitted to my 230K today, asked the dealer if he could turn it upside down as in later models, they would try but cables may be to short. He will put it in a plastic bag, technolgy is a wonderful thing.

The bill came to £600 for just the new PSE and fitting, plastic bag was free, great for something that should have been a warranty and recall issue, it is a major fire safety problem how have they got away with it, I would like to know how many cars have had the same problem 1000,s I would imagine. I have had a look to see if my SLK350 has a similar system, can,t find the PSE lets hope the water can,t either.

Did they code it? What problems did your faulty PSE cause, alarm, windows, etc....
Ours has stopped so much from working, it seems like a conspiracy!

My son drives the car more than I do but here goes
The coding I know that if the PSE ordered is the correct one (there are many types) then it is already coded if its not they have to recode the system, having paid £100 for fitting 5min job (the PSE is £504) I assume they recoded the faults were locks, alarm, some lights and the centre compartment locked, oh and it floored the battery we had to buy a new one. Still not happy the car has less than 20K on it.

Thumbs up

I've just disconnected & then reconnected the PSE, I also changed the key fob batteries & recoded the key to the car. Now it all works again. At last...

Oh, and I did the plastic bag trick too. Like you said, it's a pretty poor affair though. Your PSE seems expensive, I paid £304 from Cruickshanks in Bristol (but I fitted it myself).

How did you recode the key?

My son took the car to a MB dealer in Swindon, if thats the correct price £304 I will challenge it, thanks for the info. My son asked the dealer to fit it upside down like later models and the maker Hella advise, they could not cables etc were too short.

pigzmickey, your right just called my son the bill came to £504 the PSE was 304 fitting 120 (cant believe that it takes about 3 mins to fit the 2 connectors and the air tubes, robbery) that comes to 496 so the plastic bag must have cost £9, oh the bill had been slightly upped because he was getting his mum to foot the bill cunning little B+++++d.

He also said everthing worked apart from the auto locking as you drive away the dealer said just press the C/L switch beside the radio for 10 seconds that does it.

gary - nice to talk to you

I have set my alarm to check the PSE everytime it rains or the car gets washed - once bitten twice shy.

pigzmickey, you, me and bazzle are like something from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy we keep meeting on different forums.
