For those of you who does not mind driving to San Diego, i can have this kit (pulley, belt, fuel regulator and colder plugs) with installation for $700 and also help you to relocate the MAS. The relocation of the MAS is a MUST do when install pulley. I can only do the installation on Saturday ONLY. All work will be done at my friend shop. Btw, Kleemann kit is $1795 (not include installation) plus labor around $200 = $1995 !! That's a SAVING of $1295. Drop me an e-mail if you are interested.

ones too fast according to CHP!
So Linh,

Since you actually purchased the Kleemann kit and now have this other kit - are you saying that it is something ASP did on their own or could it be that the Kleemann kit you did have went to ASP or was part of the design from ASP?

Just curious as it seems odd that some one who would spend the money for the Kleemann would now have a different kit that is almost the same.

Thanks

Brad

Brad,

Don't even think that ASP copy Kleemann pulley because i has Kleemann pulley. Remember Buleewinkle was the first one that installed ( i did the installation with him) ASP pulley way before Kleemann release their pulley? Well, what i did was sell my kleemann pulley (too make money :>)))) and send my factory pulley to ASP (just like Buellwinkle did with his factory pulley) so then ASP can make a copy of it (we both benefited from it) and in return he give me a special custom made pulley at his cost. I actually has ASP to make my pulley 1/4 in. smaller then all the after market out there because i don't want to upgrade my intercooler therefore i want to run a little bit lower boost. Brad, don't worry !!! There's still alot d$%mp people out there that still prefered Kleemann just because it a brand name even those both pulley get the same result.

Linh,

Glad to hear that you took the ethical approach and did not simply have the Kleemann one copied.

Thanks

It the right thing to do, even those i did this more like as hobby. To proof it to you that i didn't copy Kleemann pulley, even those my Kleemann pulley is "SOLD" but i still have it on my car and can't send it to the buyer yet because i'm waiting for my new ASP pulley. The car won't run with out pulley right....lol? If you want to proof, just pay for my gas. I don't mind the driving at all.

Linh, if my ASP pulley got me 30 hp and I add the one you have I'll have 60 hp? How many pulleys can you add on at the same time?

Didn't take Brad a long time to jump on you because of the ASP pulley. Thank goodness someone else is taking the heat! I hope they are not copying the Kleemann pulley, that was an unsual design with the steel hub bolted to an alloy pulley. I hope it looks like the C-Coupe pulley, all alloy w/steel sleave for the bushing.

There are about 8 people on this forum that now have the ASP pulley installed and a few more on order. Today I broke 4,000 miles since the pulley install, no problems, just power. Made it through some 108 degree days without any heat related problems. With the drizzle this weekend the car was flying, could use a better intercooler on the warm days.

Someone has to show these people that it doesn't take $1,700 to make their 2.3L motor run faster, $350 is about all it's worth. Keep up the good work, you're a hero among SLK230 and C230K sedan owners worldwide.

What did you get that cost $350 dollars? I'm also interested in making my SLK 230 faster? Please tell me what to do. Also, is the $350 modification safe for my car? I want to get more power out of my SLK!

You can get the ASP pulley for the SLK230 (or C230) for $350 + you'll need a 56" 6 rib belt for another $15 to $20. It will make your s/c spin about 20% faster for about an additional 30hp & 35 ft-lbs torque. It take about an hour to install and I've been running it in my car for the past 4k miles, no troubles, just power. Pulley kits for the SLK230 have been around for years, up until now they were very expensive. Linh circumvented the standard tuner and dealer markup and is allowing you to go directly to the manufacturer for the pulley saving you money.

Also note that if you car is a pre-2000 SLK or C230K sedan you will need to do the MAS relocation as Linh mentions.

I don't mean to be annoying but, where can I purchase these belts and pulleys? Also, what is a MAS, what does it do, where can I get it, and how much does it cost? Thanks again.

For the pulley ($350) ask for Lee at;

(281) 261-5811

E-mail: asp@aspracing.com

For the belt, go to Pep Boys or your local auto supply store and they should stock it as it's a common size. 6 Rib / 56". At Pep Boys, the belt is $18.99. Brand doesn't matter.

The Mass Airflow Sensor (MAS) detects the mass of air flowing through it. It tells the brains (ECU) how much air is flowing into the motor. This, combined with other sensors determines ignition and fuel parameters. The air stream can have many influencing characteristics that can affect the sensor's ability to give accurate output. Turbulence and velocity variations can give false output based on the original flow profile of the sensor. It turns out that where MB put the MAS, the airflow is turbulent and this is magnified when you increase boost with a pulley. So, some have figured out that if you move it anywhere else from where it is now the problem goes away. It's not difficult as there is a pipe with an MAS spliced in, your mission if you wish to accept it is to move it a little bit in one direction. Linh can direct you to pictures and instructions. I don't have this problem as my car is newer, post March 2000. Don't do this if your car is newer than March 2000.

Just make sure that the 6 ribs belt "GROOVE" is as big as the factory grove because i seen the aftermarket belt that drive the accessories slipped off the pulley because the belt "groove" is too small (half the size compared to factory groove). So be caution when choose belts. I find this out last Saturday when i install the pulley and also decided to changed the accessories belt too with PepBoy belt.

Haha,
thanks guys. As a matter of fact I live less than a mile away from Stafford, TX. Thanks again. I'll let you know what happens (if I decide to do this because my warranty is still in effect.)

Old thread, I know! But how is the kit working for everybody? I'm ready to modify now that I'm out of warranty and this looks quite promising. Should I consider a Superchip/Upsolute after this or leave the ECU alone.

What about any lean out conditions? Thanks a ton.

Dang, I posted those questions back in '02. Haha. I didn't do the modifications. Instead, I just traded in my SLK for an M Roadster. I hope the other people reply to help you out. And...yes, this is a really, really old thread.

Contact Linh directly

If you are intrested in the pulley kit for pre-2000 SLK230's, you should contact Linh directly. I don't know how much he is hanging around on the boards these days. He was quite active on the Benzworld site but not lately. e-mail would probably work better, try the e-mail address he has here or on the benzworld site. You can also search the boards with his usename and the term pulley. Should be lots of good info.
