Modified Air intake for the slk230

I will have pics very soon. Its not done but almost. I have removed the air box both the lid and the actual box. There is two tubes connected to it so you'll need two air filters. The one I got from Autozone, its a "import ricer" air filter but it works and does the job very well. The other one isn't a automotive air filter and thats the one for the supercharger, its a prok. If you know what that is, its off a jet ski. Not a big deal sense they are both completely the same just made for different applications. Now it wouldn't be called a mod if there wasn't something of some difficulty you had to do. The silver box (i don't know the technical name, but look under your hood and you'll know what i'm talking about....Anyways) I tried to run the car with out that but had no boost from the supercharger. So I attached it to that, used the top of the air filter lid and put the prok air filter on that. It works great and I have a LOT more power now. There is a place from my road to the next where if I were to floor it I would reach 80 by time I pass the next road, now I am hitting 80 a good 50-60 yard before that road. I am going to fab up a bracket so I can get rid of the air box lid because I think the way its bent is causing this whine, or it just could be from the supercharger but that doesn't seem likely because its quite loud. Any thoughts to this or has anyone tired this, like I said I will get some pics when i'm done fabbin up the mounting bracket.

Does anybody know or have a picture of where the stock blow off valve? I can hear mine now that I have done this air box mod, it sounds like a back fire more than the nice pssshhhhh that it should have.

"Blow off valve" for use ofn a better name is where your orange filter is.

Boost gauge goes into the white tube if fitted that runs across front of motor. Mine didnt have it so I tapped into inlet pipe of Intercooler.

read WAY down the page on here when I changed my hook up.

Hey Bazzle,
I have that hose, I just went out and looked. Thanks so much man! Did you ever end up buying a pulley kit from that Linh guy? If so was it worth the $? So that silver box is the blow off valve then? Why does it suck air in if its just a blow off? Majority of my knowledge is from turbo's so some these Q's might sound dumb to you but bear with me! Yeah I am pretty sure that I hate the whin noise that my car makes now its very annoying and makes it sound like my supercharger is going bad, but I like the performance boost! Also I really want to add a loud blow off valve so it has the pssshhhh noise instead of the back fire sound, any ideas?
Thanks alot!
Derek

Looks good, do you have that annoying whining sound too? Also ever think about putting a louder blowoff valve on just because?

Supercgargers on boost make that loud whiring sound. Blow off valves not really suited for this system, differnt on a turbo where you need to release air to prevent seals leaking and to keep shaft turning.

You may have to sell it and buy a Ricer

Yes I got Linh's pulley kit. Very happy with the difference to driveability.
Worth the money IMO (and all the others)

Haha, I'm never going back to ricers again! I just love that sound of a blow off valve, but I guess i'll have to live with the ungodly whine and backfire noise. I really apprechiate all your help, I'm going to buy a boost gauge today and hook it up.
Thanks
Abbring

Here's mine, I have it unhooked because it was damn loud at start up - especially with the new pulley! It felt kind of unrefined when the car started You can definitely feel the HP gains but it is a police magnet, so I took it out.

Yep, I had that mod before the pulley kit. After the pulley kit, it got even louder. I love the noise it makes when you floor it and let go.

You really like that back fire sounding noise? I didn't really think that sound belonged with my benz! So you bought the kit from linh then?

Hey,
I was a little sceptical about purchasing something from a person on a forum because I had done it in the past and got ripped off. I asked him to put it on ebay for a secure transaction and even offered to pay the fee's but he refused. I will contact him in a few weeks to purchase the kit now however.

Hey Abbring,

You can trust Linh 101 %.

I have his kit and it rocks. Very easy to install, took less than an hour.

Linh also backs his kit with all the help you need as well as answering your questions.

There are a lot of us who have it.

Thumbs up

I a 99 slk230 it came w/ the sport package. I recently got it and like my previous cars I can't leave it stock. I am kind of skeptic since this is my first benz. I really don't much about german cars so I really don't know where yo start w/ mods. Any recommendations from any long time benz owners will be gravy.I notice you got one bazzle, did you feel the difference after the pully kit and was it worth it?

Yes I do feel a difference, just pulls better.
Well worth it. Of the many who have fitted these kits and posted in the past on many forums here and on http://www.benzworld.org/forums/foru...iew.asp?fid=26

it is a goer.

There are only a few mods for the SLK.

Low cost; $50-$200
MAFS relocate
K&N filter
Intake mod, cone filters
Resonator removal

Mid cost;$250-$800
Linh's pulley fit Best mod for power to cost.
Throttle body boring
Sprint Headers
Performance muffler
High flow cats
ECM chip

High cost;$2000-up
Rentech cams
Cylinder bore to 250
Even if you had all this I don't think you would top 250-260 hp.

Anyone got anything else?

Exterior, body, and interior stuff there is a lot,
Rear lip
Mirror mod
All kinds of chrome stuff

Go to E bay
