I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm pretty sure it's the heat from the engine. It could also be air entering the a/c vents and blowing out into the foot well because the top is down completing the vacuum. I really think it's a combination of both.

Yah annoyed

it's kinda annoying you know....you pay for a $$$ car then little things like this appears. I specially don't really like to take it to the dealership because after 10 hours of waiting the only thing they will say is "It's normal"

I took the slk to a dealer because the outside temp gauge was reading really HI on a breezy day (compared to another car and to those temp gauges they have on the signs) And they told me that the temp gauge inside the car it's not supposed to be "outside temp" it's supposed to be "Asphalt temp for the traction control" What kind of BS is that?

anyways just relieving my thoughts!!!

Where is the sensor

Simply its the temperature of the area where sensor is placed.
I don't know actually where it is but i am sure the heat coming out from the engine effects the sensor.
I believe that tyre heat is also very important , they can install an additional indicator in cars for that too...

Behind the front bumper

The user-manual describes the position of the exterior temperature sensor as being behind the front bumper and very close to the asphalt.

I find my car typically reads ±2°F compared to bank signs.

front left of the bumper

the sensor is located right on the front drivers side...it should be located by the grill. It looks just like a nipple poking out.

Haha,
oh my gosh, that's what that thing was. I thought it was the air-bag sensor. Haha.

i don't own a SLK but i did ride in my friend's car. When you have the hardtop down, the climate control will try to keep the interior warm if you have your A/C on. It will blow semi cold air on the top, and warm air out from the feet.

My brother's 5-series also has this feature.

That's pretty weird but it sounds like something a bunch of crazy German scientists would do.

Just to let you all know--I'm a gigantic fan of Mercedes-Benz and BMW. They're like two brothers--one's sohpisticated and the other's sporty. It's like two rich brats. Haha. That's just me blabbering. They are two awesome car companies.

Thanks for the compliment, but i usually only get to drive the beetle and my sister's car. I only drive my car during the weekend now. I'm too mileage conscious
