amg substitute?
hello,
i plan on modifying my slk 230. unfortunately, i can't afford to go to brabus, lorinzer or amg... what are the best alternative brands? i dont really want to make any drastic changes... just an intake/chip mod, full cat exhaust and some body work.
how is DSR (dyno spot racing)? my friend went to those guys, and they did a pretty comendable job on his a4... does anyone know how well they work with mercedes'?

How much do you want to spend?
Chip/pulley mods seem to cost between $1K and $2K and give you the best bang for you buck in terms of performance.
I have heard of dynospot racing but don't have any experience with them. I do like the fact that they remove the supercharger clutch as part of their chip/pulley mod. This should help to eliminate the so called "turbo hole" that other kits have around 3000 RPM. Apparently, relocating one of the sensors will also help.
I don't know what you want, but there are some very inexpensive replicas of Brabus, AMG, Lorinser, etc body kits. They're usually under $1K but are made of fiberglass.
You might want to check out http://www.benzsport.com. Ther are some guys over there that are more knowledgable about the type of mods you're looking for.

Out Of Control!!
The best bang for your buck would be the Kleemann Power Boost kit, which increases power (hp and torque) by approximately 20%. Kleemann products are of top quality and completely reliable.

Your best bet is a Renntech pulley and chip. The gains will be about 27 hp and 30 ft/lbs of torque. The Renntech pulley is the ONLY one that uses the same dampener as MB. The Kleeman does not have that. The kit retails for $3290. You can also add an exhust for 5hp ($1295).

The chip is a piece of cake. Just remove the ECU and send it to Renntech. It generally takes them a day to sodder a new chip with the new software back in the ECU.
The pulley is not too tough, about 2 or 3 hours labor.
