SLK/R170: 320 vs brick wall @ about 40mph
Had someone pull out in front of me...went into this brick wall at about 40. Thankfully no one was hurt.
The drivers compartment of the car is totally intact...a testament to how well built Mercedes are...although the pictures show the roof up it was down at the time of the accident...
Nothing yet, there are a few complications. The car I hit was a rental so we haven't figured out which insurance company to claim with.
I talked with the manager of the collision center at the dealer and asked him if he thought it was totaled. He said that that's one of the drawbacks with MB's...they retain so much of their value that they don't get totaled very often. He thinks that the final decision will depend on whether there is damage to the engine...
So a waiting game right now...

I hope "Allstate' is not involved. When i had an accident, they tried to refuse replacing airbags - saying - "they shouldn't been triggered", than they been pushing to put used parts on my car. One of they "quality parts" - was a dashboard rusted and almost broke and half - and they trying to say it was perfect. My car was in a shop for 2 months.
I will never ever buy an Allstate policy and suggest everyone stay away from them.
You sure did a number on that wall as well. The bricks are all over the place in the lawn. Good to know you're okay. Hopefully it all gets worked out with the other guy's insurance.
When I went back to take the pictures of the wall the most striking thing was that there were no skid marks...it all happened so fast I never had a chance to hit the brakes...
Thanks for your concern!
You about to enter an insurance nightmare.

My concern is whether they will total the car or not. I mean I loved it, it was my baby, but I'm a little hesitant about getting it back and having some long term problems crop up...

hood 800
fenders 900
airbags 2000
bumper 1500
grill 300
headlights 500
Total $6,000.00
Car probably worth 35K$ It's cheaper for them to repair it. Make sure you go over it with magnifying glass to see any signs of damage. Check radiator, condenser, rims for bents, Dashboard may have cracks after airbags exploded. If you wouldn't point minor stuff, insurance guy wouldn't notice it
If they'll be repairing your car - let them know in advance - that you'll check the color in the sun and inside with fluorescent light - so they wouldn't try to save on paint.
Good advice Kirill...much appreciated!!!
I'll keep updates on this thread of my insurance adventures.......
Glad to hear your ok. If you get the option to write it off, just take it even if your premimums go up. I had a boxster that should have been written off and wasn't. I spent more in repairs that what it would have cost me in premimums! Had to sell it at a loss.
Good luck with it.
you should search for a post of my slk's pics on the sticky. that thing saved my life when it flipped over, barely any injury. but they considered it a total and paid me 6K over what i paid a week ago for it.
Can't imagine driving an SLK in the snow though...my stays in the garage if it even looks like rain!!!
Thankfully the MB dealer here has a full collision center on site...so at least I know it will be all OEM parts...
On site collision centers at dealerships are no different from any other body shop. The insurance will still try to give them less money then they want and as a result, like any other body shop, they will try to skimp by using repro parts, refurbished parts, etc. Even if they're at the dealership, keep your eye on them.
Is there anyway to keep them in check other than daily visits? They said it would be over 2 months to repair...
Good to know...thank you...

When shop put a new dash in mine they scratched leather on steering wheel and try to say it was that way before, but fortunately i had pictures to prove that it wasn't.
