2008 SLK Mid-Life Facelift

Somewhere I recently read about the MY2008 SLK series getting a mid-life facelift. Some of the items mentioned were a new interior, new instruments, revised taillights and one or two other items.

Has anyone else seen anything in writing as to what is really planned for the half-cycle updates?

I'd say that 2008 is a pretty good guess. The old AMG V8 is being phased out so we'll get a SLK63 for 2008 and of course the SLK350 will follow the lead of the new 08' C350 by adopting the new CGI 3.5L V6 with 292hp. These engine changes and the usual bumpers, lights, trim, options, etc. etc. changes for 2008. I'd bet money on it since the SLK came out for 2005.

That would be perfect timing for me. I'll be ready for an upgrade by the start of the 2008 model year.

MBZ SLK
Let's hope that they don't get rid of the nose, that would be a mid-life facelift crisis.

I have read that MB has decided to nix the F1 nose for a more traditional Benz front end. The article did not say if this was because of consumer input but I thought the F1 nose was created because people hated the R170 traditional front end. Whatever the reason, if they do nix the F1 for the traditional, I will not be getting the next gen SLK.

Any "nose job" for the current SLK are speculation until Mercedes Benz issues official press photos.
I will be very surprised if the current F-1 nose treatment is removed for a more traditional grill construction.
The current nose is super distinctive and a HUGE HIT with everyone that has seen my SLK. There has not been one negative comment regarding this distinctive design element.

Yeah I agree. I don't seem them doing that much of a change for a mid-life facelift. The goal with most Mercedes facelifts now are to change troublesome parts and improve build quality and dynamics not cosmetics.

Nothing has been confirmed as of yet... No pictures, and certainly no announcements from Mercedes. But who knows, they WILL do something for the facelift.

I have a question...will this MY2008 facelift be marketed in 2007 (i.e. american nomenclature) or will it be available actually in 2008?

SLK 350
Exclamation

I have just ordered my SLK350 and deliberately asked for it to be delivered in Jan 07 (I want the 07 compliance plate!) So I hope that any face-lift is not until at least 2008!

I'm very excited! It will be my first Benz. If anyone has pics of obsidian black with beige interior i would love to see them.

Andrew,

Congrats on your purchase....i understand why you wish to delay delivery of your SLK....but i have a question that you may be able to answer.

If you go to a Mercedes dealer today and orderan SLK what is the current wait...has the demand fallen to a pint where they can issue you a build date staright away?

Thanks.

I ordered a 2007 SLK on Saturday (a week ago), and they said that the car will be ready in the Fall.

I ordered mine 1 month ago in the US. Depends on how many and when the dealer is alotted the SLK's. The dealer had just been given a SLK55 for delivery in August, luckily I was able to choose my options. It has been built 1 week ago and is likely on a boat heading to the US now.

Think my local dealer gets 2-4 SLK55s per year. Demand for that model is not high here so I was able to get one. SL550 and SL65's are back ordered for about 1 year he said.

I orderd an SLK350 for European Delivery at the end of May. I could have had it
first week of August. Some delay because I wanted to make sure I had a 2007 model.
They try to build the car two weeks before the customer picks it up in Germany, that
means they would have built this car in the middle of July. I guess you'd then add
the average number of weeks for delivery to your country. In the US, I think they
claim six weeks.

I've mention this before, I ordered mine on May 2nd and mine was build the first decade of July, picked it up on July 25th and it was the next years model. I think they start building new models in mid June, so you would have gotten the next year model. When I ordered mine on May 2nd, I was expecting a 2005 model but my dealer told me it's too late to order those, so I got an 06', I'm not complaining. My SLK arrived at my dealer's lot exactly five weeks.

I am wondering what you guys think... Is there realy going to be a SLK 63 or do you think is is just rumor? Looks like I will be selling my 04 M3 convert and would love to see a white "AMG" SLK next to my white E55! Any insite from you SLK guys would be appreciated. Not in any rush, but if it's true that there will be an SLK 63, I would wait.

My dealer said that there is no confirmation that an SLK 63 will ever be built. As long as M/B can sell every SLK 55 they can build, why offer the next step up.

There will be a SLK63 for the 2008 model year when the SLK gets its facelift. The new 6.2L V8 will replace the old 5.5L across the board over the next few years. This year only the SL55, G55, SLK55 and C55 (2006 only) keep the 5.5L V8. The new 6.3L V8 is the new AMG V8 of record. Now of course no dealer knows anything about a car that is at least a year away and they of course don't want people to stop buying SLK55s this far ahead of the facelift. Also for 2008 there will be an all-new C63 and the SLK350 along with the all-new C350 will get the 292hp version of the 3.5L V6 with direct-injection (CGI).
