Question Will SLK350 be offered with a manual transmission in the U.S. again in 2009?

I've read about the "new" SLK on Edmunds, AutoBlog, Jalopnik, etc., and they all do mention a manual and 2 automatic transmissions will be offered in the U.S. Since they do not specify that the 350 will only come with the two AT's (like in MY08), that leads me to believe that you will once again be able to get a 350 with MT, but you would think that's something they would mention, right? Besides, was this just a 1-year limitation? Also hard to believe. I mean, they do talk about a manual SLK350, but this guy may not make it to U.S. shores.

What do you guys think? Are there official spec sheets anywhere?

I know our friends up north (canada) can get MT, I really don't see why we can't order it with an european delivery, everywhere in the world gets it except the US, it would not be hard at all for them to make it for ED pickup.

Well, I'm not interested in ED (several reasons), so I was wondering if it would be available to order here.

Yes, and I would like to know what the "2 automatic transmissions" are. In the past, there was really only one offered -- the seven speed. Now you could order one with the "manual paddle shift" option, but it was still the same transmission. I'm curious about this, because I think that the seven speed auto combined with the SLK is one of the best trans./car combinations available. Wonder if they've got something even better?

Perhaps the "two" automatics refers to the one used in the 280 and 350 as one and the slightly different one that is used in the SLK 55 AMG.

slk 280
I've been wondering about this as well. I'm planning on ordering an '09 SLK in May and the dealership keeps telling me the 350 is no longer available with a 6speed trans. I was going to drop down to the 300 (basically the 280 with a few more hp for '09) just so I could get a 6-speed MT. I can't do european delivery either. Just doesn't make sense that if they're making the car for other markets with a MT why you couldn't order it stateside. I'm already bummed out that they discontinued the caspian blue, my first color choice. Gonna have to go with Capri blue. Would be nice to at least get my manual tranny 350 that I originally wanted.

Perhaps part of the reason for not offering a manual transmission on an SLK 350 in the US is that each combination of engine and transmission must be certified by the government for sale here. Since there isn't much of a demand for a manual trans in an SLK, maybe M/B decided that it wasn't worth the effort.

Everything I've read about the 09 SLK 300 horsepower has stated that is unchanged from the previous years SLK 280 (228 HP in USA).

Someone from the other forum said it can't be done. , I think that's stupid on MB's part, not everyone wants an automatic.

Yup Y, you and I are in lock step regarding the desire for a manual transmission.

European delivery vehicles are US specification vehicles which MB lets you drive in Europe before shipping to the US.

US spec vehicle's are not the same ars Euro spec.

I wish they offered a SLK350 manual also... GRRRRRR
