MB USA CEO Discusses U.S. SLK delivery dates

The following excerpt is from Automotive News, dated May 17, 2004, from an interview with Paul Halata, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA LLC:

2004 is a consolidation year as we prepare to go into the next phase of our product offensive. This year we have the diesel (E class), the C-class facelift, the M-class special edition in May, the C55AMG in June, the SL65 and CL 65 in the summer and the SLR in the early fall. The SLK comes in early fall, the SLK55 AMG in October. It's the final year for the G class, and we have a G55 AMG we will sell in very small numbers.

"Early Fall." What's that, Mercedes speak for "When we have cleared our inventory of the 2004 SLK's." Interesting that October is specified as a firm date for the AMG SLK though.

I think the October date for the SLK55 is significant because we had previously heard November or December for the 55. Since we know that the 350 comes before the 55, that would make "early Fall" no later than September with an outside chance for August. ( I know...August isn't Fall, but then neither is most of September.)

I have a good feeling that the 55 will hit sometime in August/VERY EARLY September. And the 350 will be here around July.

Dinko, I hope you are right. It does seem a bit optimistic, though. Is this your own opinion or do you have "inside" information?

One of the posters on the Benzworld.org thread posted that his call to MBUSA headquarters gave him US availability date of Sept for SLK350 and November for SLK55.

Unless you are a VIP don't expect to have a US spec 2005 SLK in your driveway anytime this summer.

Just simply look back on the car market.

????? Looking back on the car market would tell us that there have historically been delays when it comes to the introduction of new models. Is this what you are suggesting?
