I test drove an SLK350 at MB Laguna Niguel (Thanks Rocky!) today. Solid car. Not as fast as I expected it to be. Pewter with Jave interior. Honestly, I kinda like the Java. New cupholders appear to suck worse than the old ones, if that is even possible.
The retractable roof is faster and smoother. Takes up less trunk space too as the rear window pivots outward when the roof is retracting and then lays flatter.
The dealership claims that an order now wouldn't arrive until Spring, as all cars on the water or in production except one (red) are already assigned to buyers. I test drove a MFG plated bucket.
But I did get the newsline 2004 featuring the 05 SLK
Can't wait for the SLK 55!!!! 362 hp with a V8! 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. Smokin fast!
Cool.

anyway, EDJ i think you drove a launch edition in which case the java leather you described is actually the designo tobacco brown, which is significantly darker than the java.
Actually, no. It was java. In fact, the rear window barcode sticker was labeled in print "Pewter Silver/Java" and there was no indication of designo on the headrests or anywhere else.
Nope, not tobacco brown, but a nice light "creamed coffee" color.

i find this particular car you test drove somewhat disturbing because the only car the pewter color is available with in the united states is on the launch edition SLK which only comes exclusively with the dark tobacco brown leather. if the car had java interior instead of the tobacco brown then this was evidently a customer ordered car.. but with pewter outside, which isn't available as one of the colors?
Hmm, dunno what to make of it. It was definitely a new 350, and it definetly was pewter with java. Not only the labels saying so on the car, but I confirmed it with color schemes in other 05 brochures. And it definetely had MFG plates on it. And it was definetely at MB of Laguna Niguel (South Orange County, CA).

Who cares what kind of SLK it was? It was a new SLK, that's all that matters

Newbie
I too test drove the 350 SLK in Laguna Niguel... and have a copy of the MSG, etc. Outside color: Pewter (723) with Java Nappa Leather (844).
I ordered a Silver with black interior and can't wait ! ! ! !

Anyone in cold country tried the airscarf ? Is it really effective?
Senior Member
I went with a friend to pick up his SLK yesterday. We took a ride with the top down in 60 F weather with the air scarfs on. At low fan speed it took the chill out of the ride. At medium and high fan speeds, it was too warm. I think that the air scarf option should make top down driving fun down into the 40's, maybe even when it's colder than that. So what if people that don't know about the air scarf think were crazy for top down driving when it's cold outside.
