Great looking car. Will be interesting to see what modifications they make to base model for AMG version and which engine they eventually decide to offer with it. Might have to get my wife one of them when they come out.

I believe the Brits call it a hairdresser's car--still a bit light in the loafers for me.
I'm sure the AMG versions are much better, but the SLK was never a favorite of mine--too girlie

My .02

I had higher hopes for this vid!

I used to think of the SLK of a car for spoiled young girls, but this one definitely looks a lot manlier. The only real question is how well will it perform compared to a Boxster S.

+1

It will compete with Boxster the same way SL does with 911.

Cars are built with different people in mind.

the slk lost quite a bit of weight. if they decide to drop the 63 motor in it will an entertaining ride, for man or woman !!!

I would never consider cross shopping a 911 with a SL, or a Boxter with a SLK. The only similarities are the price point(s).

This article: 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class model changes: New Generation! gives some details on the new SLK. One of the details: there will be no SLK63 AMG... at least in 2012 model year...

I wonder how the overall weight compares to that of the R171 and how much the glass roof panel(s) weigh?

2012 C250 Coupe
This is the first SLK that I would actually consider owning. The timing is just about perfect too. By the end of this year my c-class will finally be paid off and I will probably be selling my wife's car (accord) and getting the slk and keeping the c-class. However, my only concern is snow performance (in an emergency). Obviously any car will do poorly in the snow; however, many roadsters have terrible weight distributions and even with ultra high performance all seasons, or dedicated winter snow tires, have a tough time driving up any incline with even a slight covering.

My question is to the current slk owners. How does your car fare in the snow. Nothing major (under 6") is it able to get around relatively safely. Are these on dedicated winter tires or ultra high performance winter oriented all seasons (like continental dws).

My '55 with PZero's is absolutely useless in snow, and relegated to the garage when it's white out. Weight distribution is not the problem, staggered, wide tires are. I've friends who've fitted Kumho snow tires and are quite happy with them, albeit on '350's. I have my C-Series for nasty days, so not really a problem for me.

Personally, I think the nose on the R172 looks to big and out of place, but I'm headed over to Geneva on the 8th of March to see it in the flesh, so ask me again then...

2008 SLK 350
I don't drive my SLK 350 in the snow but in the few times I did I didn't find it to be too bad at all. It was very controllable, the traction control did not come on unecessarily and the traction in 2 or 3 inches of snow was far better than my old IS300.

We got 20 inches of snow in the Chicago area yesterday I am not so sure it would do so well in that though.

2013 SLK 250 M
The manual 2013 SLK 250 feels much more sportier than an automatic one. It puts a smile on me face whenever i change down gears. In love with it
