Dont see the advantages for getting the IPOD kit

Maybe someone else knows? I really do not see the advantage of the IPOD versus the DVD MP3 playback capabilities of our Command Unit!

Here are some--
1) Ease of updating music files
2) Less storage space required
3) More music accessible without hunting through 8-9 discs
4) Take music with you when out of the car

The question is whether an iPod upgrade is worth the price differential over the DVD option - obviously, a highly personal consideration. Of course for those of us without DVD capable COMAND units, the choice is clearer.

Hi SLK55NEWB,

When you refer to "DVD MP3 playback capabilities" do you mean that you can burn MP3 files on the DVD-R media and play the song files in the COMAND unit?

I am assuming, then, that this would require you to take out the Navigation DVD and use that drive since the other disc-reader is a 6-disc CD changer?

The reason I ask for clarification is because the rep I spoke with at M-B Canada said that the CD changer would read MP3 CDs but there was no DVD playback functionality with the NAV-DVD drive.

It may be different in other markets but in the UK, the navigation DVD has its own dedicated DVD drive in the trunk, so you can use the in-dash one for music or whatever. I'm not bothering with the 6CD player - can't see the point when you can get a lot more music on a DVD.
