Any Corvette Encounters?
Ever since Car and Driver gave such a direct comparison to the performance of the Corvette, with the 55 being slightly faster, have you had the opportunity on the track (or elsewhere) to compete against one? Any experiences of mutual respect?
I must confess, I was looking at getting a C6 until vetoed by the wife. We had a C4, and she is done with Corvettes. Since then, we've enjoyed an SL500 and E500, so she OK'd the 55.

SLK 55 AMG
I went against a C5. And yes I did beat it. SLK 55 AMG. The C6 has a better 1/4 mile by .1 seconds,,, so on a straight way it could go both ways....,,,, but on a track, I believe the SLK 55 AMG will beat the C6 because it has better turning and handling...
I am not saying the c6 does not have any handling, the SLK 55 AMG has it more.

SLK55 > C6 in handling?
Was it a Z51 C6 or stock?
I've driven a Z51 C6 back to back to back with a BoxsterS and the SLK55 and the Vette just mutilated it. It felt perfect.
The SLK55 though, I'd still pick in the end, felt the most complete. Stigma comes with all those cars, and the SLK55 was the one that pleased me the most.
Plus, you cannot argue with a hardtop convert!

I believe the C6 Coupe is a better overall handling vehicle than the SLK55. It has a higher lateral G load, weighs a bit less, but may not be as tossable due to its larger size (after my test drive - this is my impression - although I could not wring the C6 out with the Sales guy next to me
). The SLK55 likely has the edge in handling to a C6 vert, just not the Coupe. Overall, C5 & C6 Vettes have always handled very well.-Matt

I have a C6 with the Z51 package. This is my first Corvette and I am impressed. The performance is terrific. The interior is not nearly a match for the SLK55 and I also prefer the SLK55 exterior styling. As far as performance goes, I suspect that the C6 would significantly outperform an SLK55. I cannot tell for sure since my SLK55 will not be built for another three weeks. I will post my comparison comments after I receive my SLK55.

C5 & C6 Vettes have a near 50/50 weight distribution, have more tire, weigh less, and with a competent driver, will likely edge out an SLK55 in cornering. Z06's are even more nasty - they are unreal on a track (pretty close to my RX-7 in handling).

Ya I tracked my Z06 quite a few times. I ahve a few videos taken at lime rock passing GT3's. The car handles amazing.
C55 is great. So far (10,000 miles in) no troubles. Am gettign the Ipod intergration kit soon.

Yup. Having 405 Hp, great handling, & good braking in a car for $50k is a an excellent performance bargain. I just think GM should spend another $3k in the dash & door materials (it would then be darn near perfect!).

My wife encountered one the other day on her way home. She jumped it and the Vette jumped it and the Vette SMOKED her, VERY BADLY. I witnessed it since I was the one driving the vette. It is a 2004 C5 Z06 with a couple mods, including an A&A Procharger. It puts down 554 RWHP, but will have 800 soon!

I'm pulling the trigger on the Kleeman blower & should have it installed by October. If you ever come up here, I'll run you - should be a good time (at least until you get 800 RWHP
