Talking AmAziNG Just in..

Hey everyone,

So today the SLK55 AMG came to my house for a test drive.. and it was basically me coming home and my dad like standing over it.. so i got in for a test and the car is the most SICK car ive ever seen.. its amazing..

the speed, the power, and the noise just makes me feel a million bucks..
Its black on the outside with red on the inside, and i was falling in love.. we checked what insurance is like and its around 10.000 dollars a year.. but i really love this car..

Anyone convince me to go ahead with it , because I simply love the look.......

Yes, $10,000.00 annually seems very high for insurance.
Just outside Philadephia, PA here and my rate is approximately $1,200.00 annually.

Which dealership lent you the car to test?

Assuming JoujiAMG is in London like his/her profile suggests its not surprising that insurance could be as much as $10k...... young drivers really get hammered over here especially if you are in London.

I'm 37 and was once quoted nearly $7k to insure an S2000

Have you asked when they could get you a car?..... the UK waiting list is still fairly long so unless you or your dad can pull some strings you could be looking at a 6 month wait if ordering from new. Which insurance company offered to cover you? most wouldn't even consider covering someone your age in a car like the 55.

Ask your dad if the beast is worth it since he's going to be forking out the dough.

SLK 55 AMG
Whoever wrote this thread, please read, I am 17 years old too!

I'm 17 years old too. I have the SLK 55 AMG that is black outside with two tone interiter black/white. I live in Los Angeles and insurance rates are high here. But I don't pay $10,000. I am about $2,500. That is with the good student report card thing where you have good grades. For people who don't know about the 3 year rule after getting a drivers license, it is within the first 3 years of you driving, your insurance rates go up. It is actually a law, I know it is a California law, but not sure if it is a federal law. They do this because it is your first time driving. I hope this makes sense! They jack up the price because you just started driving and they believe it takes 3 years for you to be quilified as a safe driver. I hope this line just made sense! Anyway,

I'm with AAA insurance. Now you are wondering how I got that number so low to be $2,500 a year with a 17 year old driver that drives a SLK 55 AMG. Well, all I can say is that there are ways around things! I don't know anybody in the insurance field area, none of those people are my friends, but if you know the rules and stuff, you can get a way much better price. Just keep searching! I really can't explain it: 1st- because I don't know if I am allowed to on this forum, 2nd- it is hard to explain.

BTW, when my parents got me the car, I promised them I would pay for the insurance and gas. I hope you do the same. So far I paid for all my gas and a little over 50% of the insurance, but the year is not over yet. My first check that I earned from my job was $404.47. That money never went to my wallet. I gave it straight to my dad!

I hope you do the same thing. It makes you more responsible and you apreciate the car a whole lot more.

Don't go around and let people at your school to have an excuse to challange you to a race. There are two cars at my school that are a bit slower than our SLK 55 AMG (WRX STI and BMW M3). The STI did challange me, but someone else proved to him that it was not possible. For the BMW M3, the kid who drives it is a hott head and would love to race against me, but he knows the SLK 55 AMG is faster. SO PLEASE REMEMBER, YOUR CAR WILL BEAT ALL CARS AT YOUR SCHOOL. DO NOT RACE! AND DON'T SHOW OFF. The BMW M3 kid showed off a lot and people think he's a wanna be. But I don't show off and people complement me on the SLK 55 AMG.

I also hand wash my car too. That makes me feel more responsible about the car. I always pop the hood to look at the engine and I open the ECU box and stuff, but I don't know anything about that. I want to get a better knowledge of the engine compartment.

You can see that I love my car, and not in the way of showing it off.

BTW, girls do come after you! Just be respectful to the ones that are not so pretty. Because each girl has a friend and they will gossip and then they will go to someone else and gossip and you will look like a jerk.

One more important thing!!!!! Lots of people talk about my car and I let them brag about it to others, not me! Remember that!!!!!!

Also, whenever someone wants you to drive them for a spin in your car, YOU SHOULD DO IT!!!! Remember that you are the only one in your area that has that car. Most adults will never be able to get a car that we both have. So when you let them sit in the passenger seat, they feel real special, espcially the girls. I thought the girls love the luxury, but most of the ones I drove around love the exhaust note and of couse the looks of the car.

Take all this advice because you will need it. When I first got the SLK 55 AMG, some of my good friends were disgusted with me. However, as the days go on, they see that you aprreciate the car and you are not trying to seperate yourself from them. Every friend of my was jeolous, of course, but they told me that I deserve it and that is because I did not seperate myself from others, I did not show off, I did not race or challange anybody, I did not spend mommy's and daddy's money for insurance and gas like it came off a tree.

What I did was that I got a job, I took care of my car, I wash and clean it so often, I always let people have a spin in my car (me driving, of couse), I respect and treat the not so pretty girls too when they complement about the car (they never ask for a ride) and a whole lot more.

For the hott girls that are really stuck up and spoiled- if they ask for a ride, do it, but don't think you and the hott spoild girl just became friends,,,, cause then the other cute, pretty girls will start hating you. However, if she is hott and spoiled, but you are good friends with her, then do as you would usualy do.! Oh and never try to make a move on a girl or say some line,,,, cause it won't work. Everybody can agree with me on that. Do it somewhere else, but never say lines.

Take all this advice into consideration!

Enjoy the car, I have had the SLK 55 AMG for 10 months now (since Dec, 2004). And I love everything about it.

17 years old and own an SLK 55? YOWZA!

When I was 17 I was working at McDonalds and driving a beat up 84 Honda Prelude that I bought for $1,500. Half the time the piece of crap didn't work.

Forward 17 years later, and FINALLY I got the dough to buy one (after a bachelors and law degree and a few jobs).

Oh well

Cool Wake me up- When September Ends

wee.. essay.

Well, I see what your saying... the fact is that in London everything is like 5 times more expensive, and the min age to drive is 17, not 16 making it even more expensive.

For example, our fuel goes at around 2 $(£1.12) a liter! where as your fuel is around 2 dollars for 5 litres :P ... and when i came everyone was complaining but its soooo low :P.

Umm, I dont think that the insurance will be too much of a problem if maybe we order the car from Monte-carlo, where insurance is around 1000 dollars. But that will take 2 weeks.

I dont wanna show the car off, I've already had a girlfriend for a few months, I just enjoy the sheer power of the car, I think i may be going to USC, but I have no idea how the kids are there.

I want the car ! ... were still waiting on insurance rates, and today Im going to Jeep, to see the new Wranglers.. and then go around in my CLK500 which is soooo not the same as the 55.

Guys, do you think the SLK 350, includes many of the same features ? and how does it compare to the 2004 CLK500 ? As that may be another option if insurance is over the top..

ThankYaa,

Joe

Not sure I understand your point about the minimum driving age..... why would it be more expensive to insure/drive when 17 than 16? Also since when could you drive at all when 16?..... the UK minimum age is 17

Petrol in London is around 97p per litre of Super Unleaded so if you are paying £1.12 you are being had..... or maybe its more expensive where you live..... which area are you in?!

Also as far as I know you must be insured by a UK company so buying insurance from Monte-Carlo won't help you.

If you go to a specialist broker you may be OK but your best bet is for your dad to insure it in his name with you as a named driver. Do you have any NCB?

Whats an NCB ?

We already have a Monaco plated car in London, and its good.. but im saying that seeing as you have to be 16 in the states, and 17 in the UK, a 17 year old driver's insurance would be more expensive in London as it would be concidered the 1st year of driving..

I live in Kensington, and the fuel is around 1.10 . . . anyways ...

seeu

Ahh ok I see what you are saying now. NCB = No claims bonus.

£1.10..... blimey it would almost be worth while driving out of town to fill up at that price! But thats the least of your worries in Kensington.

I am applying there too! I took a summer seminar of Exploring Entreprenuership at USC this last summer (summer of 2005). There were a few guys from London that I never got to meet. Did you go to this summer thing that I did also.

You're very mature for your age
No one likes a show off, but others will show off for you.
If one is genuinely nice, then others will see that.
Just don't be TOO nice so that girls you're interested in put you in the dreaded "friend" category.

There are other ways to lower insurance, but I don't think they apply to you guys yet. A B.S. degree in engineering will lower you insurance, as well as good grades (as you mentioned). Professional liscences also reduce cost. And keep that record clean cuz there's a rule at either 8 or 10 years of driving, I forget which.

As for washing, I hope only microfiber is touching your car cuz cotton towels will cause swirl marks too. And as for engine cleaning, there's those foam spray bottle things that foam up when you spray it on the engine, and just hose off after. Just remember to cover up the battery and spark plug area with saran wrap or something. There's a forum dedicated to car care. I'll link it when I go home if I remember.
