Seriously, FWIW, I do research on every modification I make to either my RX-7 or our SLK to ensure its the highest performing mod available (and how it interacts with other modifications in terms of not only performance, but long term reliability.) I don't (nor should anyone) just start buying some mixed bag of mods & slap them on their car without the aforementioned "homework" process. Anyone that takes a haphazard approach risks reliabilty, a lack of expected power development, and truly does not understand the engineering required to ensure modifications work in harmony as a unified "system". Hope this makes sense.
Here are "some" of Kleemann's positions regarding their modifications and specifically, the power load on the 7G:
What impact will the enhanced power output from a KLEEMANN tuning solution have on the engine and drive train?
Mercedes-Benz vehicles have a very robust engine and drive train capable of handling far more power than the cars produce in stock trim. The electronic control systems of the drive train produce very smooth shifts, nearly eliminating drive train shock loading, a primary cause of any drive train failure. In short: Engine and drive train will not suffer due to the enhanced power output.
How does KLEEMANN ensure long-lasting tuning solutions?
Our goal when developing KLEEMANN tuning solutions is to ensure everyday usability and durability. This is particularly true for our performance parts. That is why intelligent safety features, managing component load and preventing component overload are included. Safety features of engine or drive train management will never be compromised. Durability and usability of KLEEMANN tuning solutions are thoroughly tested in extensive road tests and on our test stand. Dyno testing prior to customer delivery ensures that everything is within specifications
"Will the 7G tronic be able to handle the power of a KLEEMANN tuning solution"?
The 7 speed 7G tronic transmission (722.9) is slowly being phased in to replace the 5 speed (722.6) transmission Mercedes Benz has used for the last 5 years. All new N/A V6 and V8 vehicles are now being built with the W7A 700 variant of the 7G tronic. The WA700 variant is endurance load rated by Mercedes Benz at 760 Nm (560 lbs/ft) of torque. This means the transmission will handle this amount of power continuously with out failure. There will never be a time where one can develop this kind of power continuously on the road. Momentary load ratings are easily 35 % higher than continuous ratings. The 7G tronic transmission will easily handle the performance from a KLEEMANN conversion. The 7G tronic has been available for nearly one year and KLEEMANN has modified many of these vehicles. None of these modified vehicles has had any trouble to date, many of them having logged in excess of 64,000 km (40.000 miles).
G55, thanks for the feedback. I agree on your examples demonstrating getting a good hole shot. However, I don't see the 7G as liability in the 1/4, rather a benefit by allowing the car to stay in its powerband for a longer time (the milliseconds involved in perhaps 1 extra automated shift will be more than offset by maintaing the power in its optimal sweet spot - IMO)?
In any case, no matter. I could absolutely be wrong & you have more drag track EXPERIENCE than me (so I'll STFU :p ). Time to go rake leaves & mow the lawn
.
Cheers,

You've got an amazing car modified by one of the best Mercedes tuners IMO. I can't wait until you get to bring it to the track. Good luck and enjoy it! Keep us posted.

u did all that work, now u gotta wide body it, with 335 or 345 u should be able to put the power down in 2nd w/ no wheel spin

Didn't take any pics yet because my Sony Macavica digital software is phuked up. Great. I may be in the market for a new digital camera. Originally Posted by dragonAMG

In any case, I already dropped the SLK off again for a MAF replacement & its final dyno at my speed shop this AM. It goes on the dyno tomorrow. I'll mess with the camera later & see if I can't get my PC to acknowledge its archaic existence (its an old camera) when I get my car back later this week.

Wait a second. When we rented out the track (capitol raceway) 2 weeks ago there were quite a few cars running in the high 11's. There were 2 or 3 modded E55's in the high 11's, a Renntech ECU CL600 that I'm quite sure broke into the 11's, and a STOCK SL65 that ran a 11.75 All of them are on this site. I cant believe they havent posted up here yet. Not to mention a modded C32 that ran a 12.5 and the new Z06 broke into the high 11's a couple times. The Kleemann SLK55 should easily break into the 11's. I agree with everyone that traction is a very big problem with these cars but one of the E55's had drag radials and had little to no wheel spin and was running consistent high 11's. Check out the E55 forums or the events and gatherings section.
I even know a guy that runs a 11.4 in a turbo E36 328i on drag radials.

I just raced in my first AutoX this weekend. It was a blast! I plan to write a small post on the subject. Anyhow, it took place at Monster Park in SF. While there, I met some people that were sponsored by Davis Motorsports Club & Edge Motoworks. They started describing this SLK55 that they saw getting dyno'ed. I figured it was your car. They were pretty impressed by it.
I said, "Yeah, I know that guy." I left out, "...through a car forum."

...........If you notice, these cars you mentioned are not Kleemann S7's or S8. The AMG V8K's and the biturbo V12's probably have a differet torque converter than the NA AMG V8's. They have lower compression pistons and although they have higher boost, they probably suffere less from heat soak issues. My car has run a 12.2, it is not a stretch to get it into the 11's, and if mine ran a 12.2 then theSLK 55K s8 should be able to do 11's, but it has not happened, yet. Even tests conducted by the tuners which tend to a bit more biased still has not shown this. So what we are offering is a possible explanation why. I have no desire to wish myself and others with these cars not to get into the 11's.Wait a second. It sounds like you had a good time & got to meet some other enthusiasts. Cool. Originally Posted by dsb

Our SLK is firemist red so if that was the color, its possible. Apparently the SLK "got people's attention" when on the dyno. It is rather, err, loud @ WOT
. I'm hoping my ECU "learned" over the weekend so it might produce more power today on the dyno. If not, its OK....just hoping for a few more horse & I'm also interested to see how much torque is put down.
See you,

Who are you using to do the mods in the Bay Area? I'm planning on putting the Kleeman ECU in soon, but my wife called around to a few of the listed authorized dealers from their site, as she wants to get it for me for Christmas and they were completely clueless. One actually said 'What's Kleemann???' Another quoted a price of $1000 (where I beleive it's supposed to be $600 or so, no?)

Yellow R1 will easily be in the high 11's with street tires. My guess is 11.8 @ 121. With drag radials he'll probably be able to best 11.3-11.4Originally Posted by Ted Baldwin

You're right, they're not. I just figured with the power you guys are putting down and less weight the cars should get into the high 11's with no problem. I dont own a S7 or S8 nor do I know anyone who does so I was just simply giving my perspective. Sorry if I offended you. Good luck on your pursuit to get into the 11'sOriginally Posted by Ted Baldwin

..........You are exactly right! As of today 11/15/05, no S7 or S8 in the eleven's. Only way to say one's car can do 11's is to post a timeslip.Enough internet racing! Time to hit the track!
