Steering wheel - 030 vs. non 030

Hi all,

I am a 350 owner and I am now looking into swapping my standard steering wheel to the AMG version.

I have a question (it might sound silly) that I would like to ask you 55 owners. I have seen quite a few pictures of the 55 steering wheel and I found out that the 030 package steering wheel seems to be thicker and without the AMG logo compare to the non 030 package. Could anyone please kindly clarify on that. Cuz I am trying to swap for a thicker steering, but the Brabus one is just too expensive.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers.

I have '05 55 non 030. The steering wheels is slightly larger than my friend's 350. I have never seen the 030 steering wheel in real life but it seems to be of the same size with non 030.
The steering wheel does not come with AMG logo anyway.

030 steering wheel is thicker

I do believe the 030 wheel is thicker than the standard SLK55.

030 Suspension

Hi Jesse,

I noticed that you have the 030 package on your SLK55 and you live in the Bay Area. I was wondering what your experience has been regarding the comfort level of the ride with the "tighter" 030 suspension on Bay Area roads? I've had the opportunity to ride in a standard SLK55 and it seems like that suspension is already quite firm for the roads in this area (generally bad road surface conditions) and I was wondering how you are finding your ride.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

I have a non-030 '55 and I don't have an AMG logo on the steering wheel - just the MB logo.

The standard '55 wheel is quite large and thick. If I had my drothers, I'd want one slighly less thick and quite a bit smaller, and certainly wouldn't pay extra to go in the other direction.

Here are two pics that I have of the SLK55 OEM steering wheel and the SLK55 030 package steering wheel - don't know what you can tell in a comparison between the two photos as to thickness - so that at least you have a pic of each.

RE:tracy

Hi Tracy,

the stiffer suspension is definitely noticeable over the standard SLK55. I don't have a problem with it except for certain areas of highway 101, that highway SUCKS.

I also wouldn't want to drive this car up in SF. The roads there are horrible as well.

Otherwise I'd say test drive one and see if you think its too hard or not.

Hey everyone,

Thank all for all the information, I think I will be going ahead with the red one in the picture.

nlpamg,

The red one you saw here is actually the F1 Safety car steering wheel (hence, the AMG logo on the wheel. Stupid me thot that all AMG has that). Steve (MBenzNL) is the man to look for if you are interested in it.

Too many to list
Does anyone know if there is any weight savings for the 030 Performance sterring wheel, or is it just marketing hype?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Just make sure that you let all of the air out of it before you weigh it for a comparison....

That's right! The 030 steering wheel is sweet, especially if it is inflated with He.
