SLK 55 AMG
The best comparison is a test drive.
There's two big differences between the cars:
1) the SLK is a convertible
2) the SLK is an automatic
If you're not the kind of person who drops the top on a convertible very often, and doesn't like automatics, go for the Z4 coupé. As simple as that...
As far as performance goes, the SLK 55 AMG has been recorded at 0-60 times of as low as 4.3 seconds. Firm numbers with the Z4M have not yet been determined, but it's about a 5 second car for sure. The Coupé is however 100lbs heavier, so it "might" be a fraction of a second slower... The increased rigidity of the coupé may mean that it will perform better in a slalom. In earlier comparisons between a Z4 3.0 and an SLK 350, the Z4 slalom times were a fraction better... The much heavier SLK will have more problems in corners, but apart from that, they're pretty even cars. Then it all falls down to looks

"Then there's Mercedes' SLK. In 350 manual-gearbox V6 guise -- with 200kW and 350Nm -- it comes in at $110,900. The more potent -- and more expensive -- 55 AMG version trumps even the Z4 M Coupé's figures with 265kW and 510Nm. At $163,500, it'd want to."
NOTE: The currency is in Australian dollars. :-)

I have been tracking the Z4 Coupe for sometime.
It's a compelling alternative to the new Porsche Cayman and I am sure that each car will be debated with both pro's and con's for either.
Unlike the last Z coupe from BMW, this current model is neither strange or slow.
Ultimately, it will probably come down to styling and marquee identification for a buyer. Porsche people or those drawn to that manufacturer will chose the Cayman and vice versa for the BMW scenario.
Since I am a Mercedes guy, and the SLK 55 is a real sports car - there was no contest with choosing it over anything offered by the other German car makers (this includes the current and new Audi TT).

put it to u this way:
there is 99.9% chance that my next car will be a z4m coupe
all it needs is a more agressive front end, a lip maybe or a new bumper, i dunno.
i cant wait till my lease is up on this piece of ****(only cause it breaks so much, its been in service at least 30times)
