Good race...The SLK gets a starting jump, but the Z06 get's a jump on the SLK55 when he does the gear change and then toward the end you can see the SLK starting to gain and about ready to overtake the Z06 when he lifts.

sorry if posted before good video though.

It's extremely difficult to "time" when to shift right in these SLKs for 2 reasons:
1) At low speed, the wheelspin makes you "think" to shift early because the engine is revving (the tires are spinning), &
2) The SLK shifter is slower than molassas (it blows - my dead Grandma can shift better than the SLK manual gizmo - MB needs to take that shiate out, replace it with the F1 mechanisms, & put in their road cars like Ferrari....that is WHY you race - to take that technology & apply it to your road cars

Best acceleration results are obtained by modulating power/wheelspin with your right foot (and sticky tires/hot pavement), not by trying to mess with that semi auto tranny.
In any case, the Z won (its man + machine, not just "machine"

Why the hell is the SLK shifting like that? Just keep it in S and keep your foot down once you have traction.
Last time I asked what type of transmission the SLK55 some smart *** remarked how long i've been on the board. The SLK is modified, could have a different tranny...

So Yellow R1, you think he was attempting to manual shift the SLK? You could see toward the end the SLK was pulling in the Z06 before he had to lift. One thing I wish you could get for the SLK is better rear gears like a 3.27 or 3.55, I believe the stock ones are like 3.06 which sucks.
I would put my money on the SLK in a dead stop race, even if the Z06 was slightly faster .1-.3 1/4 for the reason you stated...it's Man+Machine and with a manual like the Z06 it introduces a lot more chance for the Man to fail and many can't drive/shift worth a crap.

Other than the shifting fact, you think the SLK55 pulled when the Z06 shifted into 6th gear? I think all the vette's have a tall 6th gear...

Yes, the video has been discussed at nausum on some other forums. The driver fessed up to blowing the timing on the shift before switching to S & letting the car do its own work. In either case, it's not a big deal. The ZO6 is a rockin fast car "outta the box" as they say. It's a no nonsense track car & is pretty nasty in every performance metric out there. You can mod those too & they get even nastier. The SLK did pretty well, despite the blown shift.

If I ever run a Z in the SLK, I'll post it. I ran one on my RX-7 & put 2 cars on him from ~ 70 - 130 mph but hey, this ain't an RX-7 forum so it doesn't count
