Question Need help! What size is the exhaust on a SLK 5 AMG

I am gonna put an electric cutout on my car and wanted to know where it goes from duals to single (if at all) and what size the exhaust is. I heard that if I take the resonator off, I can use one single cutout since it is a single pipe at that point. Is this true? I haven't looked under the car yet and was hoping you guys could save me the trouble. Thanks!

Take a look. The exhaust never combines into one pipe. The only connection is the resonator. Even then, it's two seperate pipes. Anyways, I believe the pipes are either 2.25 or 2.5" in diameter.

Hmm...I see. I guess whoever told me that it comes in as one pipe into the resonator was mistaken. Can anyone confirm the diameter of the tubing for me?

Also, can someone confirm that I will need to buy two cutouts? Where along the exhaust is the best place to put them?

Thanks again

If you remove the resonator, you can replace it with two straight pipes. I imagine it would be approximately 14-18" in length in the whatever diameter.

If that is in fact your plan, any muffler shop should have the correct size tubing in stock.

There's been a lot of discussion regarding resonator delete and x-pipe installation. Do a search, you'll find lots of information.

My fear is that if I replace the resonator with two separate pipes, I might not have enough room to put two cutouts in place. Where would the best place to out the cutouts be?

Also, I tried a search but could not find a lot of info on the subject. What are the benefits of the x-pipe? Unique sound? More torque?

As long as I can get cutouts on my car, I'll be happy....I just wanted to know where I can install them along the exhaust system as far as space constraints go...thanks!

Not sure where to install cutouts. I guess I missed that part of your question. I think you need to let whomever will do the cutout install look under your vehicle. I dont know of anyone that has it installed as of yet.

I've tried reaching AdamG@Evotech and even calling Eurolites (no answer and no reply to my voicemail that I left them) and still have no idea what size exhaust tubing is on my SLK stock. IS it 2.25 or 2.5"? Anyone???

Anyone have an undershot of the SLK so that I can find out the best place to install the cutouts?

I have a magnaflow x-pipe that is unused and in perfect condition that will fit your piping. I was gonna put it on my SLK 55, but I went with straight pipes instead. Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you a deal on it. PM me wth how uch your vendor is willing to give it to you for.

Welding gas is ready, getting my x-pipe welded tomorrow. I will let you know if it's 2.5" for sure, as of now, I'm 90% sure.

I have the results, the stock exhaust diameter is 2.38", so a 2.5" x-pipe from any company would work. Today was a long day at my friend's shop, because we ended up taking out the 2nd pair of cats and replace the resonator with my Magnaflow unit. I will get some video clips together but I do need someone who can help me to host them here. Thanks in advance.
