Will SLK get 63 motor?
Just curious...I love the 09 SLK 55 but I will not pull the trigger if a 63 variant is inevitable...your thoughts? Seems like a logical evolutionary addition for the SLK to get the 63 motor.

Not until the 65 is standard AMG issue. Seeing the jump to 63 from 55 occurred not that long ago, I wouldn't plan on it for at least two to three years, especially given sales and recent production cut by MB.

Well, if they follow what they have done in the past with their models:
C32/SLK32
C55/SLK55
C63/SLK63?????
.....I sure hope so anyways! That engine would be killer in an SLK platform!

Sorry to go off topic, but I've been thinking about a project car for some time now... Does anyone know if the 65 engine could be shoehorned into the SLK?
That would be perfect with a better HE and a manual tranny (can be ordered from Germany)
Thoughts?

SLK 55 AMG
W211 Beast: do a search, someone claimed they were giving that a go, but this person then disappeared. He had the 65 engine and everything (at least according to the few pics he posted).

If you dream it, anything can be done for the right price.

Sorry to say guys I have had this discussion with the folks at AMG.
The SLR motor is still based on a 5.5 so it will fit. The 6.3 is a completely different engine. The word is it would require entirely too much modification to make this a factory production vehicle.
Yes I know some one has or will do this as a custom job. I am speaking about Mercedes and AMG doing this as a factory production car. The word is the 6.3will not fit.

Ya, I'm not down to pay Brabus to do this for me. I'm looking for this to be a cheap project. Buy an SLK with an a$$load of miles and buy an engine from a salvaged car. Would it be possible to shoehorn the 65 engine in there?

it's the latter, like I said I haven't looked into it yet. Bit I'm sure that if I have someone else do the work with a very high mileage slk and the engine from a salvaged (or similar) 65 car (if it will even fit in there) will be a lot cheaper than having brabus do it.
And if the 65 doesn't work I could always use a severel modded 55 engine.

What could hold Daimler back though is the development of parts to mount the motor in the SLK and make it function.

There is a possibility that the 6.3 may be going away already. AMG is looking at taking the new 5.5 4 cam 4 vaalve engine from MB and turbo charging it.
The large displacement normally aspirated 6.3 is rumoured to be having trouble passing the new stricter emmissions regulations coming in the near future.

amg is going direct injection with turbocharging in future.
slk with 63 motor, even if restricted, will blow away most everything else in lineup d/t the light (comparative) weight. to keep parity the would have to choke the 63 down to 400hp or less. so no reason to do it.

I'm sorry, I ask because I really dont know, but how hard would it really be for a tuner to strap a turbo charger to the 55 engine? While we're there, how hard would it be for the tuner to strap 2 turbo chargers to the engine?

Looking for a new toy.
This has been kicked around for some time now, but general consensus seems to be a definite "no" for the R171 platform. And with the R172 looking like it won't be appearing until model year 2012, the 6.2 may never see life in an SLK as MB seems to be moving toward smaller TT V8's by then.
