SLK 55 Black
Hi, I was thinking of getting an SLK 55 Black Series over here in the UK. Any feedback on this car welcome. Does the boot/trunk open like the standard car or does it open conventially?
Cheers.
Cheers.

Yes, I believe so but the space is much smaller because of the additional modifications if memory serves me correctly. I am not sure whethere or not you can get a new one currently as its based on the pre-facelift model. The better alternative is the CLK63 BS AMG which many reviews crave about its performance, function and practicality.

I don't think the boot space will be smaller, since the black series is not a convertable anymore!!! But I am not really sure about the boot space! I do think the SL 65 black series is better!!!

Yeah, well the SL65BS is £215,000, and you can't get your hands on one. The SLK55BS is £75,000 and there's one at MB Bromley, along with a 2007 CLK63BS for only £85,000.

I hope you opt for the SLK Black. We have little specific information on the that car since it is unavail in U.S. So beware; you will probably get bombarded with questions...

R171 SLK 55 Black Series
Hi, I am an owner of a Black Series. The boot of the car opens just like a normal SLK and boot space wise, I think it has a little more since it has no fold down top.
Power wise, the car has plenty to offer but the suspension is a little too hash for the road.

Thanks for the pics. Looks fantastic. I like the Novitec F430 as well. If you have a moment, it would be nice to get a shot of the Black Series headers. From what I understand, that is one of the mods that is different from the regular AMG SLK. Curious if they are short-tube or long-tube headers. Thanks.

Hi, that F430 is not Novitec but with Scuderia body kit. Not bad looking hey!
The header is a long tube design, I shall take some picture when I can.

As I suspected, the Black has long tube headers. I just installed short tube headers from AMS two days ago. They look fantastic and really refine the sound of the car. I will put the car on the dyno in a few weeks to see the power gains. I know that long tube headers are superior for HP gains, but I really did not want to invest that amount of $ on this car since it involves down tubes, etc.
I really could not tell that the F430 was not a Scuderia until I saw a pic of the enterior. She looks fantastic and I bet sounds delicious with that Supersprint exhaust.
Does the Black have adjustable coil-over suspension? And about the wheels; are they 8.5 inch fronts and 9.5 inch rears, or are they 10 inch rears?
Thanks much. Great collection.

Thanks much. Ok, two last questions (for now). Are the front brake rotors 360mm? Or are they larger? I also see from your pics that you changed the secondary cats. Did you try to straighten the goofy 90 degree bend in that area? I think that is my next mission; to clean up that section of the exhaust - it just does not seem efficient.

Yes, rotor is 360mm x 32mm. I didn't change to the high flow cat. as the BS units are already high flow units. I use the complete Supersprint system with X-pipe.

W209 CLK 55 AMG
Thanks guys for the feedback on the Black Series. SLK BLK`s car looks the bizz. Does the gearbox do the car justice on the downshifts as I seem to remember it being criticised on press cars? My CLK55 has the 5 speed auto which I use in manual mode on track, and guess what it is pretty good! I am attracted to an SLK as it is more compact, the SL is just too big for me. The CLK size feels slightly big, but not by much. My biggest enemy is weight, so should I strip the CLK or get a lighter car to begin with. And no, I do not want a Caterham, before anyone suggests it! I like the CLK as it goes lots better than it looks and other people love to drive it at the track. It will be difficult to better for the money.

Yes, the 7 speed on that car is quiet slow, I should order with a 5 speed with it, which those "AMG Ultimate Experience Asia" uses and I suspect it is the same box as yours. Also, I could order the car with all the roll cage and racing interior just like the AMG UEA model but I didn't know until I talked with AMG sales in Germany after I made the purchase. Damn... otherwise, I would go for the 5 speed and race interior.

Yes, that's right there are a number of units of SLK55 are made for the AMG UEA, but the engine is the basic 360hp only and they are street legal. You can order a Black Series with the AMG UEA features but with 400hp engine.
