Looking for opinions on 2006 SLK 55 AMG

I was planning to buy a 2009 370z. Recently I found out a friend is selling a low mileage 2006 SLK 55 AMG with RennTech. I know very little about MB and this model. Any info on reliability, concerns etc would be greatly apprecitated. The car has been stored winters since purchase date.

SLK55///AMG The MONSTER on the block
I purchased a used 2005 SLK 55 three years ago. Solid car, no reliability issues. Key factors in your purchase are price, condition, mileage, service history, options, interior and exterior color combination and any remaining factory warranty. Check in with SLKWorld.com for the most active SLK forum.

This generation SLK has proved to be a reliable car for most.

It is a fantastic car. With that one being a 55 AMG you found, is the ultimate. Just consider the other options on the car and the selling price.

Truly, a AMG is a fantastic car to own. I hope to have the opportunity one day.

Good luck with the decision.

Thank you -1- and mac911 for taking the time to comment. I wish the car was red like yours -1-. Also, thanks for the SLKWorld link. There is a lot more info there. I believe the warranty is up and the car has about 20000 miles. I was hoping someone with experience with the RennTech super charger would comment on the reliability of that product. That's the wild card for me.

ive had my slk55 for only a few months now but i love it. i had a fluke alternator failure and side mirror failure but so far so good. mines gotr 45000 on it.

screw the 370, i havent heard ONE good thing about it other than the price.

as long as the the supercharger is from renntech or kleeman i think youre in pretty good shape. fin dout where your nearest renntech dealer is though, just in case

A few months ago I purchased a 2006 SLK 55 AMG with 030 Performance Package. I recently took it on a 2,000 mile road trip from Los Angeles up to Washington State and back. The trip was flawless. I drove it very hard to include through rain storms and a few inches of snow and the handling was spot on. The brakes on the 030 Performance Package are amazing and very responsive which makes me feel very safe driving at high speeds in thick traffic. It has a lot of power for it’s size. The power to weight ratio makes the SLK55 one of the easiest and most enjoyable cars I have ever driven. I had a blast and I received plenty of thumbs up.

The supercharger kits from Renntech and Kleemann are very reliable. There are some cars here that have these S/C kits and have well over 50K miles clocked on them with no issues to date. I say go for it!

This is great news. I can't wait to get behind the wheel. It comes out of storage May1. I thought it would be a hard sell to the wife but she smiled when I mentioned the car. I had forgotten she drove one 3 years ago and has wanted one ever since.

Yeah, it's an easy sell for the wife. I actually bought my SLK55 AMG for my girl and she just loves it. One drive and I know your wife would love it too. Especially the Heated Scarf feature! My girl uses it to dry her hair as she drives to work!

Well it's in my garage now. Three seperate 1 hour tests drives sold it. This car is amazing. I was happy to see no Super charger, just PKG 1 from RennTech. With a 17 year old in the house I don't need that much power.

I have a date with Zaino and the car this weekend. It's just a little too out of shape right now. After that, I will post pictures.

Thanks. He also gave me a set of MB 5 spoke rimes. When I get tired of the black look I can switch to chrome.

Cool! Those 5 spoke wheels look great too. You can never have enough wheels.

I currently have these 19" Brabus Monoblock S wheels on my SLK 55 now...

...but I'm about to put some racing tires on the stock 18" AMG 030 multi-piece twin-spoke light alloy wheels and put them back on for a few months.
