Yes the SLK55 safety car is quicker than the SL55..... BUT is has been made much lighter than the standard SLK55....... it may even be more powerful (I can't remember the details).
Even so I would expect the standard SLK55 to be equal to the SL55 on normal roads and slightly quicker on track (the SLK55 nearly has the same power to weight ratio as the SL55).
For half the price that ain't bad!!!!

WOW, I really like that car a lot. A black one would look cool next to the wifes black E500 and you know its the garage art thats important.
SLK55 are you trading out of your S2000? I'll be interested to hear your feedback. I have an 04' S2000.

I have seen quite a few other S2000 owners on this forum...... to me that says MB have done a good thing with the new SLK design/performance as I didn't give the first version a second look (I didn't even bother having a test drive!) but this one seems to do it for me!.
I've ended up looking at the SLK55 because I couldn't find another car that matched up to the S2000 for the money...... the S2000 costs me £300/month (on lease) so I've looked at things like a Boxster S (same performance) but that would set me back £550...... then I thought about the SLK350 but once I'd added the options I wanted the lease price went from £450 to £600/month! exactly the same as the SLK55 lease cost!!!! So I can either get another S2000 or cough up twice as much for near supercar performance....... and I'm seriously tempted!!!!
I have an SLK350 booked for a weekend test drive soon so I'll report back once I've driven it as its very close (on paper) to the S2000.

Audi RS4
You're right the Brabus is a beautiful looking machine - however the SLK 55 conversion costs €30,000 over a standard '55 (i.e. 50% as much more!) which puts it up against some seriously heavyweight machinery such as the 911.
The appeal of the '55 is that it gives supercar performance for (relatively) little money and although the 0-60 of the Brabus is down to 4,2, the car is still limited to 290 kmh.
Very much a rich boys toy IMHO
