SLK55 AMG
Talking My SLK55 AMG has arrived... early!

My dealer called me this morning to let me know my SLK55 had arrived at the dealership (UK)! It was not due to arrive until early/mid-January '05! I was amazed and raced to see it!

It looks and sounds great! My dealer allowed me to drive it around the compound. The only problem I could see at this point was that on close inspection of the vent on the driver's-side front apron I noticed the paint was just, and only just, starting to lift! Everything else was superb. I took some photos but they haven't come out too well due to the damp surfaces and low winter sun but enjoy!

Regards

Car looks fantastic... Congratulations!

I was just wondering whether it's possible to opt for the 5-spoke AMG rims? Is that an option or do they have to be purchased as an accessory?

It is not an option in the US. I also wanted the 5-spoke AMG rims but the 16 spoke rims look great in person. It actually complements the car.

Cool! That's the first UK one I've seen.

Same interior and exterior colours as mine, which unfortunately, is still 12 months away. I am having the 18" AMG five spokes, which are a no-cost option in the UK. And Parktronic. I went a bit nuts with the options actually but let's not get into that

Yes, I've heard that the 16-spoke wheels look great in person... The only reason I'd want the 5-spoked wheels would be for cleaning purposes... I guess most of you guys are using the spray on & hose off method...
Eric...

ps. It's funny to see parktronic on such a tiny car

It may be tiny, but you can't see most of the front end from the driver's seat.

Actually, that was the main reason I wanted to get the 5-spoke wheels. I'ts been only a week and it is starting to be a pain to clean. The things you have to do for your baby

SLK55 AMG
The car is Iridium Silver. I first saw the car in this colour when I was invited to the Geneva Motorshow in March 2004. My previous car was an SLK320 in Brilliant Silver. Iridium Silver is a much 'whiter' silver shade, conservative but I like it!

My dealer told me that the PDI would involve a road test of ~20-25miles to add to the 4.2miles already on the clock from the factory.

Still not sure how they're going to remedy the lifting paint on the offside front vent in the apron!?! I'm disappointed to see that a car with this fault managed to escape from the factory (especially considering the price of the car ~$107,500!), perhaps the onus is on the PDI at the dealership!?!

Also my dealer told me that I would not be eligible for attendance at an AMG track day!?! I understood that all AMG cars purchased in the UK (from a MB recognised dealership) came with this!?! My dealer advised me that MB had recently cancelled this - news to me?

Will keep you all posted.

Rgds

Hi Mark. Congrats.

I'd complain about the AMG day - thats bang out of order - the cheapskates.

Not sure why they need to put 20 miles on it either. Where is this dealer?

I'm having second thoughts, I was offered a Feb build slot last week but I'm still umming and arring as to whether I still really (53kGBP really) want one.

Let us know what you think soonest.

Cheers

Complained to MB about the AMG Driving Experience day who took note. They advised that that day should still be complimentary with an AMG purchase so I will be getting the opportunity to give it a go.

Apparently 20-25 miles is for a full and thorough PDI, required by MB for a car of this type.

Although I only managed to have a drive of my car around a car park it did feel very nice indeed. The exhaust system produces a delightful tone and I got the feeling the car felt like a scaled down Grand Tourer but with a very sporty edge when one required it. The brakes felt incredibly good, even when braking at low speed.

Nasty, I'll leave the decision to you... I was very happy with my car and don't regret spending the £55,500 on it.

Best regards

MJT

I was No. 9 in the UK last I heard. I put my order in to my dealership in April 2003!

I just got mine too! I'm afraid I paid a premium as well for getting it so early. I was no. 9 on the list, but I would have had to wait til Feb, and this one had everything so I jumped on it. When I drove it for the first time, I thought to myself I would have paid anything for it, so there it is. I LOVE this car.

I'll attach a pic at some point (as soon as I download the pics from a trip two months ago). Mine has every extra except one of those design pkgs (with the wood and such) so, of course, its silver and black, but it also has blackened rear light covers (like the SL) and 19" aftermarket wheels and Pirelli tires.

In So Cal, land of exotic and fast cars, within 2 hours of getting the car, I had two different guys, at two different locations, come up and tell me the exact same thing, "this is my dream car." They knew every detail of the car, even how to tell the difference between it and a 350 from the front. With the hood, I thought maybe they thought it was an SLR, but they assured me it was the SLK 55 they were talking about.

On the road, every car that thinks its fast will zip up to check it out (I am one of the first few with a 55 in my area), and then its funny to see some cut around me like they want to show themselves off as competition. Boxsters, please. And should I have considered the Cadillac STS or CTS, or whatever its called, competition? Or a Saleen Mustang. If the Mustang can go faster, it certainly wasn't as smooth about it. I can tell you that just by watching it jerk and spaz trying to prove itself. Also, it wasn't topless with heated seats and a heated airscarf, and a surround sound stereo, and ... well, it was just plain ugly next to the 55!
