Regarding the break sqeal, my dealer offered to replace the rotors and break pads. The noise on mine is coming in from the front right wheel. What's everyone else's experience?

Brake squeal is VERY common among performance
vehicles as many use a better metalic brake or stronger
brake pads. My prior Cobra,Viper, and C-5 Vette all had
this problem but was considerd normal. It always only
occurs at SLOW speed stops but NOT under fast hard
braking.

1. Litte Two Rear Middle Console speakers between seats make a cracking sound once in a while, can't really hear them. I have H/K speakers with Nav-Upgrade. But subwoofers or the so called things in the door (the big speakers in the door) they turn on and off, this only happened 3 or 4 times. Also, one day my sound system got so loud, extremely loud, I thought the amp was going to blow, the windows of other cars were shaking too (I had my windows down, so the music was able to vibrate on their cars.

2. Windows, when my windows are down and I push the window up button once, they go all the way up and come down 3 inchs, push the button again a second time, they come down 3 inches, I have to hold the window up button to close them or turn off car and push window up. This happens once in a while.

3. Hydralics in the trunk- isn't the hydralics suppose to push the trunk all the way up? I open my trunk with the smart key on my C 320 and the thing flies up, on my SLK 55 AMG the trunk just opens.

4. When I turn the key and start the engine, most of the time my car from the quad-pipes makes this coughing sound like a human. Is that normal? The quad pipes are not loud. The C 320 sounds good, the SLK 230 sounds good, the SL 500 sounds good, but not the SLK 55 AMG, it has the worst start up with the exhaust sound. When driving, the exhaust sounds good, better than the other cars I mentioned, but not when turning the car on.

5. My brakes squeek at low speeds when braking.

I took it to South Bay Mercedes in Torrance and they said the problems that I had were because that the SLK is a 55 AMG. They said a lot of the AMG cars have these problems, becuase they are high performace. But what do the windows, the sound system, and the trunk hydralics have to do with high performace? I can understand the brakes squeeking at low speeds and maybe the human like coughing from the quad pipes when turning on the car.

Not sure if the window issue is a problem or programed
that way. Same thing with the trunk issue. Maybe
someone can chime in that has the same thing happening
so that we know if it's normal or not. The speaker problem
seems to be common and the coughing start up issue is now listed.

Apart from the extra second is the AMG really worth it?

Sounds like a case for considering the SLK350 over the SLK55. The reviews on the new 350 engine seem to imply it has superior technology despite the lesser performance.

We haven't received any problems with the engine
hence there is no substitute for cubic inches.

My car is a dream

The HK NAV stereo however is a different story. It had a reception problem and crackled and didn't handle bass well when I first got it. Just brought it to the dealer and told them to fix it. They screwed in the antenna better and may have done some other stuff, but it isn't as noticeable now. Maybe I just got used to it.

Something else, kinda weird. I am coming back to OC from LA, listening to a CD, when the thing just goes off - dead. Tried to turn it on again over and over, but I never got that NAV warning screen, just the MB one and nothing. Then, like 20 minutes later, BING, the thing pops on again ON ITS OWN full volume - scared the sh*t outta me.

Squeeky break

I've got a brake that squeeks, It's kind of embarrasing to have squeeky brakes on 66K car.

I had mine since November 04. My car has been in the service department at least TEN times!
1) MB changed a fog light (seal broken).
2) MB changed a rim (defected).
3) MB changed both side mirror blinkers (seal broken).
4) MB changed one of the mirrors (they accidentally had broken it!).
5) MB removed the seat to fix the seatbelt.
6) The roof is still leaking after a car wash.
7) My Teleaid is still not working.
8) My front passenger side brake squeal. Even though, MB put new pads! I
think the problem is with the rotor being in the wrong direction.
9) Engine vibration.
10) Speaker problems.
11) Seat moves during hard driving.
12) Door knocking noise.
13) HUGE!!! roof noises!
14) Passenger side mirror struggles (shakes) to adjust for backing up position.
15) Still don't have the proper AMG floor mats.
16) I got the Navigation manual just two weeks ago!
17) Problem with the windshield washer nozzle.
18) Problem with the differential.
19) Problem with the steering.
20) Should I go on!
I can not wait to see the day that Infiniti/Lexus/Acura make cars similar to AMG. Probably never!

What?

Well I think I've heard enough! I've decided to cancel my order. I'm not buying a $65.000 dollar piece of S**T. My S2000 has been a great car and my only service calls have been oil changes.

Since I started this thread I'll chime in here.............
As for me I'm sticking to my SLK55-AMG order. As our cars
are hand built we all can expect some of these "minor
issues" IMO. I've owned Vettes,Vipers, OCC Motorcycles,
Pantera, Cobra, Maserati, Lamborgini and the like in the
past and I have yet to find a hand built without some
issues. That's part of their respective heritage. So........I
look forward to my car that's currently on the line. I think
it's still one hell of a car for the money. Let's face it 70-80K
is not much for car of this calibar anymore. Further go to
any site forum of other cars in our class and you'll see
plenty of minor as well as major complaints about issues
including Porsche.

Thumbs up

My teething problems (viz. the resonating tweeter case and the blue smoke on start from cold) have both been remedied and I am now 'over the moon' with the car!

People must accept that with such a new car, built too such a high level there are going to be 'teething problems', those that cannot accept this are living on another planet!

I know people who have bought Bentley's, Aston Martin's and Porsche's who have experienced problems with their cars.

I'm jolly delighted with my purchase! :p

Red face

Forget the big names, there are people with with Hondas, Toyotas and all else that have problems too. I feel sorry for anybody who gets a lemon

So I feel sorry for you, but don't try to disuade others. Again, my car is a dream - I absolutely love it. If it does encounter any problems I will just bring it into the dealership to fix it. If they don't, I'll sue the **** out of them :v Actually, with all the paperwork I signed, I probably can't but isn't there a law making it so you can take a car back after 10 days or something for those who get a lemon? Not sure. Sorry your car is a lemon, if it wasn't you would probably be in love like some others here
