I'm guessing that the driver of that car having to cough up $1M is equivalent to me purchasing an item off McDonald's dollar menu. He'll pay the fine and get on with life.

And you thought The Swiss were all cuckoo clocks and cheese - they have a total sense of humour about speeding/camera detectors and massive fines but still have more guns per person than any state in the US!!

Did you know that the Police caught him because he parked the car further down the road on a reserved police parking space before visiting a gypsy camp just next door?? He also said that the speedometer was broken and didn't realize he was driving so fast I wonder what is brewing there

holy crap that must suck having the cops molest your sls like that, but I guess it's his own fault those speeds could have killed him easily.

If the guy got caught on a bike he deserves everything he gets.

If the fine is that high, this guy may be better to just walk away from the car and never return to Switzerland. It appears he was from Sweden. I'm assuming the long arm of the "traffic" law does not cross borders.

well here in ontario canada

if the cop says you were going 50kmh over the limit you lose your car right then and there, impounded for 7 days and a 5k (canadian) fine

even if you win in court you have to pay the towing and impound charges

welcome to the peoples republic of ontario

i got arrested on 355 where it meets with 290, 3 years ago(second day i had my C43) doing 145mph on 55mph zone, got charged with reckless driving, inappropriate lane usage, failure to wear seat belt, failure to signal, and speeding, had to pay $750 on fines and $2k for my lawyer, but i kept my license and only 3 months of court supervision. But they put the speeding ticket on my record!

Could you have broken any more laws? You're fortunate they didn't throw you under the jail.

Doing 145mph with no seat belt...lol.

What's with people thinking that money eventually becomes no object once you reach a certain level of wealth?

Even if you have a lot of it, it's still money and worth something, you don't just like "throwing it away" for no reason.
