Newbie SLS owner. please help

Hey, realize its a bit hard to get answers here in this forum, since i'm coming from bimmerpost

please do not start to flame me, i have 3 question in mind:

1. What are the engine oil type? (do you guys frequently top up)
2. What is the total amount (litre) of engine oil used?
3. do you guys really succeed the break-in process?
(4500rpm, 140km/h really? seems impossible, i'm at 613km by now)

Thanks before guys!
cheers.

I don't do my own oil changes so I don't know how much you need but my mechanic who owns a Porsche race team and services my 97 Ruf Turbo R uses Liqui Moly.

We used to used Mobil 1 then Motul but I guess the quality has been inconsistent. These guys race at Daytona, etc so they know oil quality.

When I talked to the AMG head driving instructor at the AMG driving course he told me that by following the break-in Rx, the 6.2 litre motor will be very durable and won't burn oil even though they have that reputation... I bought my 2012 C63 brand new and broke it in according to the MB Rx and it did not burn oil.

Hope that helps

Doug

Thank you for the response,
but i find that quite good reasoning, however the Mobil 1 has different kinds of oil refereed to MB229.5 specifications.
its just so hard to drive the car with breaking rules.

went to the dealer last time, they said they apply 5W-30 to every serviced cars.

i am still confuse between 5W-40 (229.5 genuine oil) or 5W-30
but for sure when i reach 1500 km i will change the oil,
also ordered the filter its about $38 usd.

0w40 mobil 1 is factory spec
10 qts
dont both with break in, give it hell. It likes it and wants it.

You are also going to need 2 oil cooler o-rings, they are fat and green. 2 o-rings one is a normal drain plug 14mm size i believe the other is like 18mm and thin which is for the dry sump tank. Good luck doing this, you really need a lift. Make sure the engine is up to operating temperature first. Considering you are asking simple silly questions my guess is you really aren't qualified to be working on this car. best of luck it's only like a 100k$ motor no worries.

the orings are for the oil cooler lines. There is no drain plug for the oil coolers so you disconnect the lines.
